The role of this nursing assistant post is flexible, and the post holder will therefore, be required to provide support over a wide range of service/functions.

Key to this flexibility is the requirement for staff to work variable hours on a week by week basis within agreed limits.

The post holder will be required to work according to a locally agreed Code of Conduct for Nursing Assistants

  • It is expected that ALL employees of the Trust will take part in the appraisal process each year and with the first appraisal taking place within the first 6 months from appointment.
  • Communicate & report any changes or information relating to the patient to the Registered Nurse.
  • Communicate appropriately with patients & visitors to the Ward or Department, portraying a professional respectful manner at all times.
  • To receive patients, visitors & staff in a calm, friendly & efficient manner
  • Exchanges factual information with patients using reassurance, tact & empathy.
  • May overcome barriers to understanding for example patients with physical or mental disabilities & for those patients whose first language is not English.
  • Under direct or nondirect supervision of a Registered Nurse as deemed appropriate will assist with all aspects of essential patient care.
  • Provision of personal care to patients.
  • Prepare equipment for medical and nursing staff for procedures
  • Assist medical & nursing staff with procedures as required
  • Act as a chaperone supporting patients undergoing examinations or procedures
  • Escort patients to other areas of the Trust as directed by the Registered Nurse
  • Within individual training programmes & local protocols, checks & cleans equipment.
  • Under the direction & supervision of the Sister/Charge Nurse order stocks & supplies & ensure they are store appropriately.
