Undergraduate Medical Education (Medicine & Surgery)


Applications are invited for the above posts, based at Redwood Education Centre, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital to start from 7th August 2024 for 12 months fixed term.

Working within Gloucestershire Academy, the largest academy campus outside Bristol, the post holders will be involved in the education of medical students from Years 2-5 of the University of Bristol.

Post holders will also undertake a certificate in medical education at the University of Bristol, which will be funded in full by Gloucestershire Academy.

The Academy has a strong record in medical education research and successful applicants will be expected to participate in research.

The post is full time for 40 hours per week, and the salary will be defined by previous experience.

Post holders will be required to undertake 1 locum shift per quarter, a total of 6 shifts, which will attract extra pay.

Single accommodation is available.

Interviews for these posts will take place at Redwood Education Centre, GRH on Friday 15th March 2024.


This is a full time post based on 10 sessions per week; 9 sessions within the Academy and 1 supernumerary session undertaken in service provision relevant to post holders career progression.

1 of a team of 9 Undergraduate Clinical Teaching fellow, working both GRH/CGH with an office base on both sites.


his post offers the opportunity to be involved in the Medical Education of Medical Students, whilst maintaining clinical exposure and experience in a supportive educational environment.

The prime function of the post holder is as a teacher delivering core content and providing tutoring for medical students from Year 2 to Year 5 of the Undergraduate Curriculum of Bristol University.

Teaching will take place in a variety of forms:

small group tutorials, large group tutorials, seminars, skills based practical sessions, bed-side clinical teaching and clinical based history and examination.

The majority of this teaching will be relevant to Year 3, although there will be also teaching of students in other clinical years.

The post holder will be expected to spend time developing teaching sessions in a variety of formats including e-learning materials.

Contributions to the appraisal and examination of students will be required.


Education - This post is not recognised by the Royal Colleges for General Professional Training nor by the Royal College of General Practitioners for Vocational Training.

Objectives of the post (see also person specification)

To support and develop the delivery of medical education to medical students within the Academy structure.

To develop competence in medical education and specifically to develop teaching skills through studying for the Certificate in Medical Education

To develop teaching materials and enhance learning within the Clinical Skills lab.

Act as a role model and first point of contact for the student body during their stay in Gloucestershire.


Contribute and participate in the assessment process for all Medical Students, both at a local and regional level including hosting the OSLER (long case) examinations at GRH/CGH.


It is expected that the post holder will be flexible, professional and co-operative within the evolving needs of Clinical Academy.
