The role

This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys working in a varied, customer facing environment.

The International English Centre will be your home department, and you will act as the frontline representative for the IEC, delivering high quality customer service to IEC students, agents, partners and other internal and external stakeholders and contributing to all areas of IEC administration.


This role is ideal for someone well organised, flexible and with excellent communication, administration and IT skills and an ability to work under pressure.

The IEC runs courses during 42-weeks of the year with summer being the busiest period.

The role holder must be available to work on campus including through the summer period (mid-June to mid-September) and leave granted within this period is likely to be for periods of no more than one week at a time.

The International English Centre (IEC)

The IEC is a British Council accredited language centre located within Global Marketing & Student Recruitment (GMSR).

We deliver university preparation courses for international students, as well as English language summer schools and short courses, academic English support for undergraduate and postgraduate students, and training for English language teachers.

Appointments are normally made within - 8 weeks of the closing date.

What you'll do

  • Acting as a frontline representative for the Department, delivering high quality customer service to IEC students, agents, partners and other internal and external stakeholders and ensuring a relevant, timely and friendly response to all enquiries and requests
  • Communicating effectively and positively with a diverse audience including students and prospective students, recruitment agents and partner institutions and key internal stakeholders (Accommodation Office; UKVI Compliance team; International Recruitment & Development Team; Global Opportunities; International Student Adviser; Timetabling; Undergraduate & Postgraduate Admissions Offices; Finance; Academic Registry; academic departments)
  • Contributing to all areas of IEC administration and maintaining efficient office routines to ensure high levels of service, accurate recordkeeping, and compliance with necessary policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Managing certain IEC processes, which may include attendance monitoring, Password English testing, travel and arrival processes, and individual inductions
  • Contributing to the work of other teams in GMSR as required
  • Assisting the IEC Administrative Manager in producing offer letters, CASs, invoices, end of course participation certificates, transcripts and other administrative documents as required
  • Making straightforward admissions decisions for short courses and summer schools, in line with clearly defined criteria
  • Assisting with assessment administration
  • Providing data and reports and carrying out competitor research as required
  • Assisting the IEC Administrative Manager in updating the IEC website
  • Taking a lead on creating an engaging social media presence for IEC and maintaining the IEC space as a vibrant and welcoming one
  • Working as part of a team with colleagues in the IEC and beyond to ensure that the quality of the IEC student and customer experience is of the highest standard
  • Contributing actively to student welfare, developing positive relationships with students, earning the trust while maintaining proper professional boundaries
  • Working on campus from 08:45 to 17.15 Monday to Thursdays and from 08.45 to 16.15 on Fridays to maintain a customerfacing service and being available to work through IEC's busy summer season.
  • To undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post.

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Excellent written and spoken English; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders; ability to communicate successfully with nonnative English speakers
  • Evidence of working successfully in an administrative and / or customerfacing role
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to priorit
