Beacon Support Ltd. are recruiting for a Specialist One-to-One Study Skills Support Tutor (ASC) to work with Higher Education students. The position offers flexible hours to work around you, whilst helping to make a difference to students' educational experiences.

We have students with Autistic Spectrum Conditions, who require one to one support with their higher education studies.

Tutors work with an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and act as facilitators to help students develop learning strategies that will improve their study skills and enable them to become independent learners.

This specialist support addresses the issues which some students might have in acquiring, recalling and retaining information in written and spoken language as well as the range of memory, organisational, attention and numeracy difficulties that students with ASCs often face when working in an HE context


Requirements:


  • Teaching qualification
  • Completion of National Autistic Society (NAS) online training modules, Autism and SPELL course, or relevant inhouse and CPD accredited training (or willingness to undertake training)
  • Experience in working with individuals with ASC and specific learning differences, ideally in higher or further education.
  • Educated to degree level


This is a specialist role, so applicants should have substantial experience of working with students with ASC on a 1 to 1 basis, also experience of working with these disabilities in an educational/learning environment and a good working knowledge of assistive technologies and related AT study skills strategies would be desirable.

An in-depth knowledge and understanding of autistic thinking and learning is needed.


An awareness of the strengths which students on the autism spectrum can bring to a learning situation and the skills to help students to make use of these strengths and overcome barriers to learning.

This is a fixed term/rolling contract.
