Job Purpose:


primary purpose of the role is to support the delivery of internal audits across the entire Synthomer group, to provide assurance to the Synthomer Executive Committee and Board that the risk, governance and internal control frameworks within Synthomer are well designed and operating effectively.

The Internal Auditor (trainee) will be responsible for assisting the internal audit function in delivering the internal audit plan.

Under the guidance of the Internal Audit Managers, the Internal Auditor (trainee) will perform risk assessment procedures, process and controls review and testing, assist in the preparation of the internal audit report and monitoring of audit findings, and perform ad-hoc duties as required by the internal audit function.


Main accountabilities:

Audit Planning:

Support the Internal Audit Managers to:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the audit area and processes under review and undertaking risk assessments to inform the objective and scope of work to be performed.
  • Develop a detailed test programme to support the delivery of the overall audit objective, ensuring detailed audit work is effectively focussed on areas assessed as higher risk.

Audit Fieldwork:

Support the Internal Audit Managers to:

  • Complete audit fieldwork in an efficient and effective manner to ensure that budgeted deadlines are met without sacrificing depth of testing and overall review quality. This will include performing walkthrough procedures to assess the effectiveness of the design of controls, and performing testing of the effectiveness of internal controls.
  • Document the audit testing to ensure audit objectives are achieved and appropriately evidenced.

Audit Reporting:

Support the Internal Audit Managers to:

  • Write clear and concise audit reports for distribution and agreement with management
  • Discuses audit findings with management and agreeing appropriate management actions and timeframes for implementation.

Management Actions:

Supporting the Internal Audit Managers to:

  • Deliver the management action follow-up process to ensure updates are received, analysed and reported accurately, and that senior management is appropriately engaged.

Annual Audit Planning:

  • Supporting the development of the annual risk based Internal Audit plan.
Skills and Knowledge

  • Minimum 2:1 degree in any discipline
  • Professional Accounting or Internal Audit Qualification
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret a broad range of complex information
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Proficient writing, presentation and listening skill
  • Strong ethical standards and high levels of integrity
  • Commercially aware
  • IT literate; with an understanding of the principles of data analytics

Location and Travel requirements:

  • Position based at the London (Pall Mall). Travel is expected to other global Synthomer locations, as required, in order to deliver internal audit activity
