As we enter an exciting phase of our development, we're looking for an experienced, resilient, energetic, driven, and highly focused procurement professional to provide leadership and management of our Digital & IT category.


This role will also be responsible for leading the strategic direction setting and oversight of delivery of the Digital & IT category.

The role will act as the Category expert, leading the creation, ongoing refinement and implementation of a category strategy.

The post holder will develop an understanding of their market in detail and will use their knowledge to identify gaps and create / shape the delivery of new innovative solutions.


The role will develop positive professional relationships and work collaboratively across our organisation to implement solutions that help to continually improve service offerings and deliver ongoing value to our customers.

With regular contact with our NHS-SBS Salford site, you can expect to be visible as and when required.


What you will be doing:


  • Become an active member of the Procurement Solutions leadership team (PSLT)
  • To lead, manage and develop the Digital & IT category team, enabling NHS SBS to differentiate itself within the marketplace.
  • To ensure high standards of team performance and cross team collaboration at all times
  • To develop strong working relationships with all Heads of Category, Head of Procurement Standards & Quality Assurance, Legal Counsel, Heads of function /
  • Procurement Leadership Team members across the Procurement Line of Business and where applicable with wider group representatives
  • Develop and maintain commercial strategies and category plans relating to common goods and services, delivering measurable and significant commercial results including savings and other indirect benefits throughout the procurement lifecycle.
  • Design, shape, and agree innovative commercial strategies for highly complex, high value, high profile requirements, as well as common goods and services, in accordance with best practice, local policy and expectations.
  • Drive strategic and tactical sourcing exercises aligned to category strategies within defined timescales and to agreed quality standards.
  • Identify improvement opportunities through effective procurement reporting and analysis of management information.
  • Support and contribute into a progressive commercial strategy for the specification, procurement, and management of all contracted and outsourced activity.
  • Ensure bestinclass procurement and contract management processes.
  • Ensure that category workplans are actively developed, managed, updated and delivered.
  • Meet agreed category cost savings, efficiencies and value add targets.
  • Cascade guidance and direction on commercial principles and good practice
  • Manage business continuity and create robust contingencies for critical delivery.
  • Lead the development and creation of procurement solutions (i.e. frameworks and dynamic procurement solutions)

What you'll bring:


  • Public sector procurement and compliantly working with the Public Contracts Regulations 2015, including relevant policy and guidance.
  • Experience of leading a team in a fastpaced / challenging environment
  • Knowledge of category management principles
  • Experience of Project and Programme/PMO Management / Leadership
  • Experience of delivering high value / strategic projects through all stages of the procurement lifecycle
  • Experience of implementing procurement / sourcing strategies at a regional or national level
  • Leading individual / crossfunctional teams and resources to improve processes and drive continuous improvement.

It would be great if you had:

  • CIPS
  • Experience and knowledge of working in the healthcare sector
  • Experience of digital procurement tools and processes
