This opening assignment is for 6 months

Basic DBS required for this role

Hybrid working may be available Supported Transport contracted services conveys the most vulnerable passengers in over 500 vehicles travelling approx. 45,000 miles a day. A Specialist Transport Officer is required to take responsibility for setting and monitoring the quality and safety of passenger transport to educational and social care establishments in line with statutory requirements, Council policies, procedures and best practice standards. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring any complaints and issues raised regarding transport are recorded, investigated and managed in line with the Council corporate complaints policy. A transport background would be ideal but not essential as full training will be given.


Key responsibilities:

  • Investigate complaints from transport providers, parents/carers, schools and members of staff and decide the outcome.
  • Undertake establishment checks at schools, meet with transport providers and record accurate data from meetings.
  • Adhoc assisting other teams during peak times.
  • Ensure that all contract documentation meets the Council's standards and monitor the quality of services. Ensure high standards are maintained, service quality is tightly controlled, excellent value for money is achieved and service is provided consistently and safely
  • Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with all stakeholders.
  • Carry out regular and systematic quality checks of all service providers to ensure compliance with Passenger Transport Legislation and the Council's conditions of contract. This will include visits to operators' premises and onsite visits.
  • Investigate all complaints and issues the service receives in accordance with the Directorate's and the Councils procedures.
  • Issue formal contract warnings, breaches and termination letters when providers fail to meet the necessary contract standard.
  • Carry out planned regular school and establishment site visits to ensure contract compliance is being maintained.
  • Participate in the planned programme of provider visits, which may involve on site face to face meeting.

Qualifications:


  • Good general education with GCSE grade C level English & Maths or equivalent.

Experience:


  • Experience of administration and supporting the work of a team.
  • Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
  • Experience of being able to input and extract data in databases and spreadsheets.
  • Experience of following set processes and instructions and delivering clear written and oral communications.
  • Previous front line working with internal and external customers, including dealing with difficult and challenging customers.
  • Previous experience of managing and undertaking facetoface meetings.
  • Previous experience of contract monitoring desirable.
