The Land Ecosystem Models based On New Theory, observations, and experiments (LEMONTREE) project aims to develop a next-generation model of the terrestrial biosphere and its interactions with the carbon cycle, water cycle and climate.

Its long-term vision is a new-found capacity to make reliable projections of climate change and to realistically address issues in sustainability, including the potential to maintain the biosphere's capacity to regulate the carbon cycle while benefiting human well-being and development.

Professor Colin Prentice is the science strategy leader of LEMONTREE, which is funded by a charitable organization through 2025.

The role of the Research Coordinator is to facilitate the effective operation of Professor Prentice's research group, including scientists and students who are funded from other sources but are contributing to LEMONTREE's ambitious goals.


Duties and responsibilities:


  • To act as Professor Prentice's first point of contact with administrations at Department, Faculty and College levels.
  • To organize both regular (monthly) and occasional research group meetings, including setting up the arrangements for participants to join remotely.
  • To assist in the preparation of complementary proposals to the European Space Agency and other bodies, including liaison both with international coordinators and with College financial administrators as required.
  • To communicate with PhD and Masters students (actual and potential) regarding project topics, proposals, supervision arrangements and travel arrangements.
  • To keep track of publications by the group and ensure that College and funding agency achiving and reporting requirements are met.
  • To liaise with the College Open Access team regarding funding for openaccess publication of results.
  • To provide timely information to the project PI regarding the reporting of recent scientific findings.
  • To liaise with the project PI and international collaborators on matters related to data sharing, joint meetings and publications.
  • To liaise with the project PI's team on the communication of research findings via social media.

Essential requirements:


You must be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Extensive experience in an environmental science context
  • Experience of working with researchers at all levels
  • Experience and knowledge of the scientific publication process
  • General knowledge of the nature and social context of global environmental change

You must also be able to demonstrate:

  • Ability to use initiative and work independently and as part of a team
  • Operational excellence excellent attention to detail, accuracy and professionalism
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop effective working relationships with all levels of staff, both within and outside of the College
  • Advanced IT skills using Microsoft Office
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the confidence and diplomacy to interact with all levels of staff

Further information:

This is a full time, fixed term position until 31 December 2025. You will be based at Silwood Park Campus.

Anticipated interview date is 28 July 2023.
