About the organisation

The Guardian Foundation is a charitable body whose purpose is to promote global press freedom and access to liberal journalism.

Our vision is a world where people have access to reliable information, from a diverse range of sources, strengthening their ability to hold power to account.

Our NewsWise programme aims to empower primary school aged children with the skills and knowledge to engage with news, to feel confident to ask questions and challenge misinformation, and to share their own values and opinions in a fair, responsible and truthful way.

NewsWise provides free high-quality cross-curricular news-literacy education resources, experiences and support for schools and families. The programme is run in partnership with the National Literacy Trust and PSHE Association.

This role will be part of NewsWise programme delivery across the Birmingham region in spring and autumn terms in 2023, with the possibility of further work in the region beyond this period.

About the role

We're looking for two enthusiastic and experienced workshop facilitators with a track record in teaching who can demonstrate their ability to engage their audience while developing critical media literacy skills with children and families.

You will be passionate about inspiring young people about news and supporting them to develop critical media literacy skills. You will need at least 2 years of teaching experience. Knowledge of learning outside the classroom and current education initiatives would be advantageous.

The role will suit teachers/educators currently in part-time roles who are looking for opportunities to expand their range of experience as well as freelancers already working in similar education roles.
