Broomfield anaesthetics department is pleased to offer a Fellowship in Peri-operative care with a focus on the management of high-risk patients and pre-assessment incorporating CPEX testing.

All patients undergoing major surgery are pre-assessed by consultants with an interest in pre-operative assessment, resulting in over 50 CPEX tests each month.

Broomfield Hospital is a centre for mínimally invasive surgical procedures including robotic approaches.

We are active in a number of national peri-operative studies including PQIP and ALLEGRO.


This post has been created to:

  • Enable the post holder to develop a special area of clinical and research interest in pre
- assessment, including CPEX testing, and the peri-operative care of patients with an increased post-operative morbidity and mortality.

  • Develop skills in training, teaching and
  • To assist in the provision of a quality anaesthetic service.


The Fellow would be expected to provide a specialist anaesthetic service at Broomfield Hospital in collaboration with colleagues, to share general medical responsibilities and participate in the training of junior medical staff.

Attainment of the necessary continuing medical education and professional development criteria are essential. There may be the opportunity to gain experience of high-risk surgery at our other sites.
