WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING


Reporting to the Legal, Compliance & Financial Crime Director, this new exciting permanent opportunity is to deliver a first-class Financial Crime Compliance function.

It will be your role to ensure the business operates in accordance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations whilst supporting the strategy and commercial aims of the business.

Delivery of effective measures for prevention or identification, management and control of financial crime risks. Providing guidance to the business on embedding and delivery of regulatory requirements.

You will lead teams responsible for execution of second line financial crime processes including: Line 2 FC Operations including AML, ABC, FOTE, Sanctions, PEPs/RCAs, Quality Control SAR Disclosure, FIU interaction).

This role is a certified role under the SMCR regime.


Ideally you will possess significant risk and compliance experience and be well versed in the area of financial services operations, with a strong knowledge of the global and legislative and regulatory framework relevant to financial crime (AML, sanctions, counterterrorism, anti-bribery and corruption, facilitation of tax evasion).


What you'll be doing

To provide a high level overview, the job role responsibilities will include;

  • Deputises for the MLRO as and when required
  • Leads activities required to support the implementation and embedding of SCUK's Financial Crime Strategy, and AML, Sanctions and ABC/FOTE policies and procedures
  • Strategic leadership of, and escalation point for teams responsible for execution of second line Financial Crime processes with critical legal and regulatory considerations.
  • Acting as an escalation point for key financial crime decisions (as agreed with the MLRO from time to time)

Governance, Risks and Reporting:


  • Ongoing oversight and sponsorship of change programmes
  • Member of various Financial Crime governance forums.
  • Ensuring that any breaches, dispensations and waivers against San UK and/or group policies and frameworks and standards are managed and progressed.
  • Ensure appropriate identification of financial crime risks and development/maintenance of controls.
  • Ensure that Financial Crime Risk Appetite and metrics are appropriately stated and reported

Developing People:


  • Be the primary contributor to the overall people strategy for the Financial Crime Compliance function.
  • Ensure that culture of coaching, development and continuous learning is in place to assess and monitor the capability and effectiveness of your direct reports and the wider team to identify developmental requirements, taking into account changes in financial crime and the wider legal and regulatory frameworks as well as the career aspirations of the team.

Customer focus:


  • Supports SCUK in the definition and execution of a robust FC risk management framework with a clear focus on the customer journey and experience management of FC risk arising from internal and external activities, processes and people.

Change Management:


  • Acting as Deputy to the MLRO leading on transition management, ensuring that business as usual is maintained during periods of transition (setting acceptable levels of performance variation) and the changes are effectively integrated into the business without degradation of the control environment.
  • Identifies and drives initiatives to produce significant business improvements or cultural change in support of business advantage and customer outcomes.
  • Plans and delivers other projects which meet the Company's objectives.

Processes and Results:


  • Specifically ensure that the new model harmonises operational processes, in order to maximise efficiency and effectiveness and recommend future systems enhancements for consideration.
  • Anticipates potential issues and proactively reviews processes to minimise impact.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage and incorporate 'Best Practice' solutions.
  • Integrate Group/shareholder policies into local operations and policies. Management of new processes either within the UK operation or to align to Group model.

What we're looking for
The requirements will include;

  • Significant risk and compliance experience and be well versed in the area of financial services operations
  • A strong commercial awareness and an ability to produce technical and policy output which is clear and practical
  • Strong communicator/influencer evidence of effective management of stakeholders up to Board Level
  • Demonstrated experience in providing solutions to regulatory issues and taking ownership of resolution
  • A detailed knowledge of regulatory and industry matters gained from UK finance or banking organisations
  • People management experience in leading and developing teams and individuals
  • A sound understanding of risk controls, processes, measures and related MI/reporting and the related technical knowledge.
