Job summary:


  • This Army Welfare Service (AWS) Business Support Worker post offers the opportunity to work in a role that supports the well being of soldiers and their families. AWS is the Army's professional welfare provider, delivering a comprehensive and confidential welfare service responsive to the needs of individuals and families and the Chain of Command. AWS delivers Personal Support (PS) providing confidential and professional specialist welfare, and Community Support (CS) providing youth and community projects, and activities for children and young people. These delivery pillars are supported in delivering the service by the AWS Business Support team.
  • This position is advertised at 37 hours per week

Job description:


  • The Business Support Worker (BSW) is responsible to the respective Deputy Area Welfare Support Officer (DAWSO) in providing an effective and competent business support service for all AWS staff within the team's area of responsibility

Person specification:


  • This role is suited to a person with excellent attention to detail and a good level of administrative skills, with the ability to work without supervision as part of a wider AWS team.
  • Key Responsibilities are:
  • 1. Provide an effective and competent business support service to Deputy Area Welfare Support Officer, Community Support and Personal Support staff for all AWS activities within the team's area of responsibility, carrying out all general administrative duties to support team members in the delivery of the AWS service.
  • 2. Ensure the team business support office meets and maintains standards in accordance with professional policy and practice standards.
  • 3. Be responsible for ModNet user management ensuring transfer of data between iHub and operational systems as required.
  • 4. Be the team point of contact for SharePoint, liaising with the Information Manager regarding updates and changes.
  • 5. Act as local team administrator for Joint Army & Navy Information System (JANIS), receiving service user calls where relevant and recording written messages, processing forms and redirecting calls where appropriate.
  • 6. Coordinate JANIS casefile administration inputting casework data as directed, undertaking case file transfer actions and distribute Support/Closure letters as appropriate.
  • 7. Provide support to the local PS staff in handling of the PS casefile audits and destruction.
  • 8. Provide support to the local CS staff in handling of the CS archives.
  • 9. Assist the ABSM, where required, in the recording of Disclosure & Barring Service checks in consultation with the DAWSO.
  • 10. Collate and consolidate monthly and quarterly statistics for all aspects of AWS business as requested by Area offices and HQ and as directed by the DAWSO.
  • 11. Act as POC to facilitate transport and travel booking requests, including the day to day administration of local AWS vehicles.
  • 12. Act as POC for all team Authorised Demander (AD) and Local Security Officer (LSO) issues.
  • 13. Work in accordance with appropriate MOD policies and procedures, AWS Standard Operating Instructions (SOI) and within the Army Code of Confidentiality.
  • 14. Undertake other duties within the terms and conditions appropriate to the grade and role as directed by the Line Manager
