About the role:


You will be responsible for accessing the opportunity to and then delivering a new curriculum/programme developed by Skylarks that aims to increase the understanding of careers options, employment readiness (life skills), and self advocacy of young people of secondary school age with special educational needs and or disabilities.


You will be working in collaboration with young people with special educational needs and disabilities, their parents/carers, professionals, key partners, education settings, and the local community, to better understand the local and individual barriers to accessing training and sustainable employment.


What are you doing now:


  • You may be a teacher or otherwise involved in the education sector and looking for a new parttime challenge
  • You may be working in an advisory role for another charity
  • Working with children with Special Educational Needs or other disabilities
  • Currently delivering training courses in a relevant field
  • On leave from work and looking for your next challenge

Principle duties:


  • Be the principle representative for the curriculum/programme on behalf of Skylarks Charity
  • Deliver engaging facetoface and remote training programmes to young people and their parent carers
  • Work with stakeholders (schools, employers, local authorities etc;) in the design and development of Skylarks education, training and employment services where appropriate.
  • Understand local and national education, training and supported employment opportunities to meet the needs of young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities.
  • Routinely collect quantitative and qualitative data on its effectiveness and use the feedback to ensure that the programme is high quality, meets the needs of its key audiences, and evolves to reflect market opportunities and user needs

Skills and knowledge:


  • Knowledge of the education system, schools and how to present the charity to key stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to relate to young people, parents, pupils, schools careers leads and other parties on a wide range of complex and sensitive issues
  • Demonstrated expertise in creating and maintaining positive relationships with corporate partners and partner organisations
  • Excellent presentation skills and strong written and verbal communication skills, including influencing and negotiation skills
  • Strong time management skills, with attention to detail and efficiency to ensure tight deadlines are met
  • Experience of working in a careers advisory role with people with special educational needs and/or disabilities
  • Extensive knowledge of the different profiles of special educational needs and disabilities and the challenges and barriers that people have as a result of these additional needs in education and employment
  • Computer skills: technologically literate, including use of CRM's, Google Drive, and Microsoft Office Packages
