Description

Overview of the main roles and responsibilities for the role, Leadership Contribute to the writing of operational policies, recommendations for practice and the implementation of divisional and local initiatives.

Collaborate with the wider division and trust education teams, Matrons and Service Leads to ensure the divisional educational needs are addressed.

Maintain and sustain the vision and objectives of staff development, education and support until they are firmly embedded into the culture and values of the division.

Identify clear objectives, goals and processes for education and development and to communicate these effectively to others in the work team.

Act as clinical expert and role model leading by example best practice and demonstrating professionalism within clinical practice. Ensure adherence to trust and local policies, guidelines, and Standard Operating Producers throughout the division. Participate in the performance management of staff when necessary.

Support the senior staff throughout the division to undertake appraisals as part of the PDR process as and when required.

Maintain records of education and training provided and records of attendees. Facilitate staff orientation, training, education and practice development programmes with equitable access and support for all levels of staff. Provide support to unit supervisors and those staff undertaking external courses and training. Promote and actively participate in teaching of all grades and disciplines of staff throughout the division and wider trust.

Encourage staff to be innovative in the development of patient care using evidence-based practice and patient focused models.

Collaborate with divisional Matrons and Service Leads to facilitate full compliance with mandatory training and appraisals Produce an annual report on training, educational achievements made and make recommendations for the future education strategies.

Liaise with other staff groups to develop and deliver multi professional clinical education. Collate accurate education and training records in line with Trust Targets.


To encourage and foster a culture that supports lessons learned from adverse events and to provide relevant education and training to address any education gaps.

Support the local, divisional and trust wide recruitment processes and induction and preceptorship programmes. Collaborate with the divisional Matrons and Service Leads to evaluate external educational modules in relation to cost effectiveness.

Responsibility for research and development Collaborate with the Research Nurse team to develop and support a programme of nursing research.

Undertake clinical audit utilising appropriate audit and research tools. Disseminate audit and research findings and implement change as necessary.
