ROLE OVERVIEW
A junior position within the brewing and cellaring team to assist with the production of wort,
- monitor the beer's fermentation and conditioning in line with quality control and production targets.

  • The Junior Brewer will be responsible for assisting production and Senior Brewer in all daily duties,
- such as malt preparation, Brewhouse CIPs and record-keeping. The role will also involve cellaring
- duties such as Measuring in tank CO2/DO and carbonating drinks as required, yeast management,
- and performing basic quality checks. Other duties will be ensuring our processes meet relevant
- hygiene standards, and making sure raw materials are readily available.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Carrying out daily Cellaring duties, including:
  • Monitoring fermentation, ensuring Fermentation profiles are adhered to.
  • Operating HopNik.
  • Carrying out Vessel cleans (CIPs).
  • Performing basic quality checks. Phys-Chem checks, yeast counts & yeast viability.
  • Separation of green beer using a centrifuge.
  • Measuring in tank CO2/DO
  • Carbonating beers as required.
  • Ensuring beer is in spec for packaging dates.
  • Yeasting /hopping off vessels as required.
  • Yeast management.
  • Assisting Senior and Production Brewers in Project work where needed.
  • Keeping systems and records up to date.
  • Capable of learning how to troubleshoot problems.
  • Good Time Management.
  • Carrying out hygiene work, ensuring the brewery is kept clean.
  • Ensuring all products and processes meet relevant Food Hygiene standards.
  • Ensuring that the quality of product leaving Beavertown Brewery is excellent at all times.
  • Assisting on brewhouse duties, when on shift with a Production or Senior Brewer:
  • Malt, salts and hop preparation
  • Brewhouse CIPs
    Generic Requirement

People

  • To partake in any developmental training as required in compliance with the company standard
  • Responsible for promoting a professional image of the Company and for complying with the company's Equal Opportunities and Harassment Policies at all times, including work related events which take place outside normal working hours.
  • Comply with company rules, procedures, agreements and any notices displayed by the Company.
  • Increasing your understanding of the art and science of brewing through study and investigation. All Brewers should be working towards their IBD certificate or equivalent.
  • Demonstrating the 'Beavertown Way' to visitors and clients through knowledge, enthusiasm and hospitality.
  • Providing cover as a team 16 hours per day, 7 days week including bank holidays (e.g. Christmas).
  • Rota'd for weekends, alongside Production or Senior Brewers (never the most senior person on site).
  • Providing cover at THFC on a rotation basis according to Production needs and/or allowing.

Quality

  • To operate in line with SALSA, BRC and ISO 9000 Quality systems with specific reference to quality, complaints and nonconformances.

Health and Safety

  • All staff have a duty to work in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974), COSHH Regulations and other relevant policies and procedures.
  • Comply with all relevant Health, Safety and Security Regulations.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • At least 6 months' Brewery experiences or relevant academic qualification (MSc/IBD).
  • IBD General Certificate, IBD Diploma, MSc in Brewing desirable
  • Understanding of brewing science, equipment and techniques.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering or Familiar with laboratory equipment and methods desirable.
  • Capable of physical work.
  • Ability to work well in a team in a fastpaced Production environment.
  • Strong communication and time management skills
  • Strong record keeping abilities
  • Willing to work on a 24hour shift system basis
  • Positive and committed attitude to work
  • Demonstrate a passion for the industry and Beavertown brand
