An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Children's Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Team at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.


This is a full time Speech and Language Therapy Assistant Post working in clinics, schools and preschool settings across North Derbyshire.


You will join one of our hubs supporting SLTs to deliver therapy to children with speech, language and communication needs; demonstrating and implementing therapy programmes to parents/carers and setting staff.

We are a caring and supportive team and will offer training and supervision to develop your skills in this role

  • To assist and support the Speech and Language Therapists in the management of children with speech, language and communication needs.
  • To undertake home, nursery and school visits, as appropriate
  • To carry out routine departmental duties to promote service efficiency
  • To present a professional image and to promote a positive image of the Trust to service users, carers and the community as a whole.

  • To work under the guidance and direction of the Speech and Language Therapist in delivery of the speech and language therapy service to children.
  • To support the Speech and Language Therapist in assessing children with speech, language and communication needs.
  • To deliver interventions for children with speech, language and communication needs under the direction of the Speech and Language Therapist. This will require working in clinics, schools, early years settings, client's homes and other locations.
  • To report clearly and discuss children's treatments with the Speech and Language Therapist managing their overall care.
  • To work towards independently running groups to maximise speech, language and communication development
  • To maintain accurate and up to date records and in line with Trust and service guidelines and requirement.
  • To communicate as effectively as possible with children and their carers who may have barriers to understanding such as learning difficulties, cognitive impairment, sensory impairment including hearing, vision, behavioural difficulties, cultural or language barriers, expressive or receptive communication difficulties, mental illness, depression or aggression. To communicate effectively a range of verbal and nonverbal communication tools will be used in order to gain a successful treatment outcome.
