Description

About The Role:

*INTERNAL VACANCY - ONLY CURRENT PPG EMPLOYEES NEED APPLY*An internal opportunity has arisen for an Orthopaedic Surgeon to join us at Shepton Mallet Hospital as Lead Orthopaedic Consultant.

As a Consultant at Practice Plus Group you will have access to great facilities in a well-structured and relaxed environment.

We perform high volumes of orthopaedic surgery in our unit with 1500+ hip and knee arthroplasties being performed in the year 21/22 during the recovery from Covid-19 with a expectation of building on this in the coming year.

Our length of stay averages for both hip and knee surgery are significantly below 2 days and we are growing our same day discharge arthroplasty pathways with our enhanced recovery programme.

We would welcome a surgeon who is able to help to develop this. Our adjusted PROMs outcomes are consistently better than the national average.

Our orthopaedic surgeons are part of the Practice Plus network of surgeons within our surgical units in England and are very much part of a large team with the opportunities for support and learning that this brings.

About You:

We are looking for a consultant with extensive experience of elective orthopaedic surgery.

All full time roles are 40 clinical hours per week.

A commitment to provide out of hours on call cover on a rota basis will be required as will attendance at occasional meetings over-and-above these hours.

On-call will be determined with other orthopaedic colleagues. First line cover will be provided by the RMO's and little senior call is anticipated. Opportunities may arise for further clinical work in addition to the basic contract.

CPD is encouraged and supported:

The study leave entitlement is ten days a year, with up to £1300 expenses claimable for travel, subsistence and fees.

Please note that for meetings outside the UK, only the meeting/course fee will be reimbursed.

The post holder will be required to perform orthopaedic surgical procedures on patients referred to the Hospital and Surgical Centre, working in accordance with hospital protocols and working practices.

The post holder will be required to lead the Orthopaedic Medical team and these duties will include leading the department by example, organising the on call rota with colleagues and also managing both annual and study leave with colleagues in a way that sustains productivity and volume levels required throughout the year (e.g. following policy on notice periods for these requests).

The post holder will be required to hold regularly specialty meetings with colleagues to enable information to be disseminated to colleagues and to give an opportunity for outcomes and cases to be discussed and for any learning outcomes to be shared between colleagues.

These meetings will form part of our system of robust governance and audit processes and minutes will be expected to be captured and shared.

The post holder will engage with the collection and monitoring of PROMs, NJR and GIRFT data and act on results.

Applicants will also need to demonstrate commitment to excellent teamwork with clinical colleagues, willingness to utilise clinical care pathways in the overall management of patients and assist in improving these pathways over time, and a very positive attitude to dealing with patients.
