Business Unit Manager/ Team Leader


Salary:
£13.53 per hour/ £25,328.16 per year


Hours:36 per week


Work Schedule:
Week one: Monday - Thursday 6:00am - 2:00pm; Friday 6:00am - 12:00pm

Week two:
Monday - Thursday 2:00pm - 10:00pm; Friday 12:00pm - 6:00pm


Contract Length:3 years


BACKGROUND OF OUR ORGANISATION


Pullman Rail was established over 20 years ago and it enjoys a long-standing reputation for the quality of its engineering, its timely delivery and competitive prices.


Our Leckwith based depot, located close to Cardiff Central station, is a prime asset serving the entire UK rail network.

Our technical expertise in safety and project management means we can deliver refined engineering and productions solutions to meet specific customer requirements.

We are constantly developing our systems and techniques to reduce waste, cut down on lead and cycle times and improve efficiency in order to get vehicles back into revenue earning service as quickly as possible.


The Company is a key employer in South Wales with a national reach and there are plans to grow the Pullman Rail business, building on the many well-established customer relationships as well as developing new ones.

The business itself will also carry on completing current and planned improvements to its facilities. This will enable further development in the scope of services for passenger, freight and plant rolling stock.

These developments will increase the capacity and reduce throughput time for bogie, wheel set, rail vehicle overhaul, refurbishments and upgrades.

Pullman Rail aims to be the supplier of choice for heavy maintenance within the UK Rail Industry.


PURPOSE OF THE JOB


A semi-skilled fitter is expected to carry out the practical work needed to keep traction and rolling stock machinery and equipment running smoothly and safely.

They carry out repairs and routine maintenance.

In addition, they use a range of hand and power tools and need to learn and observe all the safety regulations for traction and rolling stock working.


PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow the relevant instructions and specifications to the expected quality standard and customer requirements.
  • Use the appropriate methods and techniques to safely carry out tasks.
  • Work as part of a team, getting involved in various aspects of overhaul, to deliver the expected production rates.
  • Make sure the work you have undertaken is completed to the required specification.
  • Ensure accurate project documentation records are completed and maintained to standard.
  • Deal promptly with problems within own area of responsibility and report those that cannot be resolved.
  • Check the condition of the removed components and record those that will require replacing.
  • Ensure the handling and storage of components is in line with organizational procedures.
  • Maintain good housekeeping in work area.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
  • Report any instances where the equipment fails to meet the required performance after adjustments or where there are identified defects outside the required adjustments.
  • Take precautions to prevent damage to components, tools and equipment during removal or replacement.
  • Participate as and when required in onetoone meetings and undertake, as appropriate, courses/training/other developmental activities, relevant to the role.
  • Keep up to date with developments within the Company and other sectorwide practices, that influence the daytoday activities within the role, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and any other relevant internal/external factors (e.g. Company policies and procedures, Quality Management standards, Health and Safety).
  • Ensure, in the course of employment, complete confidentiality is maintained in respect of the Company, its dealings, transactions and all other information relating to clients/customers/staff etc.
  • In addition to the duties and responsibilities outlined, you must be prepared to undertake such additional duties which may result from changing circumstances, but which may not of necessity change the general character or level of responsibility to the post.

SKILLS and EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in appropriate trade.
