Here at The Edinburgh Woollen Mill we have a fantastic opportunity for a Assistant Print Designer to join our Design team based at our Head Office in Carlisle.

Experience Required:
Preferably educated to Degree level with a relevant Design qualification in Fashion/Textiles.

Preferably work experience gained within either a retail or supply base fashion apparel design environment.


What I need to do

  • Support the delivery of the design strategy and KPI's on sales, margin and profit.
  • Input creativity within the team to share innovation, product trend and lifestyle ideas.
  • Design commercial and competitive product ranges using creativity and effective translation of our customer needs.
  • Manage the development of the product from concept design to launch, liaising with Product Technologists and Buyers ensuring that the critical path targets are met.
  • Effective operator of Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Identify key trends, shapes, fabrics, colour and prints for your individual department/category.
  • In conjunction with the Print Design Manager, Designer, Buyer, Product Technologists and Sourcing Managers, identify new products and innovation with quality and cost in mind.
  • In conjunction with the Print Design Manager, Designer, Buyer, Product Technologist and Sourcing Manager have accountability for product fit for purpose and design packs right first time.
  • Adhere to safety, quality, copyright and legal requirements.
  • Support quality standard requirements set to maintain clear differences in quality to our competitors.
  • Seek and identify commercial product opportunities that meet department/category growth plans by keeping up to date with trends in design, lifestyle and branding, in order to predict future customer requirements.
  • Have a strong awareness of trend and be able to produce commercial and relevant trends each season for the EWM customer.

  • Relevant design experience in a similar product design and development role.
  • Relevant technical, fabric and garment construction experience for given product range, knowledge of manufacturing processes and experience of working with international suppliers.
  • Confidence to influence and engage, building relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Effective communicator, presenter and team player.
  • Commercial awareness and proven creative ability.
  • Customer and market knowledge.
  • Commercial product knowledge.
  • Critical path management.
  • Demonstrate a passion for the EWM brand and a clear focus on the customer.
  • Computer literate with the ability to use Abobe Creative Cloud to a high standard.
  • Up to date knowledge of retail and customer trends.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast moving dynamic retail environment.
  • Ability to deliver results as an individual and as a team.
