Nursing Home Maintenance Assistant


Contract Type:

Permanent - Full Time, 40 hour per week,
1 week in - On Call for emergencies - Paid at normal hourly rate.

£13.00 per hour

Key Tasks

  • Maintain homes and their grounds so they fall in line with Health and Safety policies
  • Complete emergency maintenance tasks where needed
  • Complete Planned Proactive Maintenance folder and use this to understand where there are reoccurring problems
  • Complete forms and paperwork
  • Inform Maintenance Manager and Operations Director of serious maintenance problems
  • Liaise with Maintenance Manager, Operations Director and any external companies to complete maintenance tasks
  • Carry out all routine checks at the homes according to company procedures and within required timescales
  • Ensure emergencies are responded to promptly.
  • Maintain a proactive approach to prevent problems from reoccurring.
  • Ensure all repairs are completed safely and to a high standard.
  • Equipment is stored and maintained appropriately
  • 1 week in 6 to be on call for Bristol and Bath homes in case of emergencies, including Saturday and Sunday.

Required Skills, Abilities and Experience:


  • You must have strong planning and organizational skills, you will be responsible for planning your own day.
  • Ensuring that all tasks are completed within the agreed time scales set by the Home Manager.
  • You will be working in our residents home, as such you will be a good communicator and able to build a rapport quickly with all residents and staff within the homes.
  • Liaising with suppliers and able to collect stock and equipment off site when required.
  • The ability to work well in a team and independently.
  • Previous experience of working with older people is desirable but not essential.

About You:


  • At least 1 years' experience as a maintenance person
  • Have knowledge or understanding of a wide range of traditional building trades
  • Knowledge or understanding of health & safety at work, particularly moving and handling techniques and COSHH assessments
  • Have strong written & verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge or understanding of the care sector
