An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and proficient Business Support Officer to work with Public Health and Health and Justice commissioners.

This post will be embedded within the Midlands H&J Commissioning team, working in a hybrid way, combining home working with some travel to meetings and our Sexual Abuse and Referral (SARC) services across the region.

You will be required to be a proactive team player in a fast paced and dynamic team. You will need to be a professional administrator.

You will support the SARC commissioning team but work flexibly to support the wider Health and Justice team as required.

Working both as a team member and independently, you will be able to multitask, work under pressure to meet deadline, and handle confidential information with care.

Fixed term until 31st March 2024.

Please note this role is working for NHSE but hosted by NHS Arden and GEM CSU.


The duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide high quality administration support taking minutes and providing project management support
  • Undertake information/project analysis.
  • Maintain data collection systems for its effective use by the team.
  • Support the senior team and Commissioning Manager(s) in managing the range of Custodial and noncustodial contracts within the Health & Justice portfolio
  • Support the continual improvement of an end to end commissioning and contract management processes


You will be organised and conscientious with the ability to work under pressure, planning and co-ordinating workloads to meet deadlines.

A common-sense approach to work is important, as well as being able to handle sensitive information in a professional manner.

The post holder will be required to have a good level of competency in using, Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Office, in particular Word, Excel and Outlook.

As a Business Support Officer, the post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service supporting managers and staff across the Midlands Health and Justice and Public Health Team's


In particular the post holder will provide and coordinate administrative and secretarial services including updating various systems and databases and collating and reviewing information with the oversight of the SARC commissioning support managers.

Tasks will include the arrangement of meetings, preparation of agendas and minutes, and taking appropriate follow-up action as required.

Maintaining and processing payments systems and other contract management software, for example, without limitation CQRS.

Provide specialist secretarial/administration support and advice to the teams and/or Sector to support a number of initiatives by:

  • Taking telephone calls for others in the department when they are out and expected to use their initiative when dealing with phone calls and messages.


The postholder will support the team with the management of projects, gathering information and undertaking enquires as and when is necessary.

The postholder will also provide business support services to other areas of the commissioning function as required.
