The challenge

A fast-evolving public corporation, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is committed to shaping the future of regulation in the UK nuclear industry.

As an Independent Member of our Audit & Risk Assurance Committee (ARAC), you'll play a key role in helpingus meet the highest standards of corporate governance.

The role
Our Audit and Risk Assurance Committee (ARAC) ensures that our audit processes are adequate and appropriate.

The ARAC is incredibly important as it's responsible for providing assurance to the ONR Board on the maintenance of appropriate and adequate auditprocesses, for the governance of the internal audit and external audit programmes, and has oversight of our risk management process.

We now need an Independent Member to join ARAC and help to scrutinise governance at the highest level. With your background in finance, performance, and risk management, you'll bring a new perspective to the Committee's oversight.

While your skills and experiencewill complement the existing members, your diplomacy will help you to challenge in a constructive way.

In total, you'll commit 10 days a year for preparation, travel, reviewing reports and attending meetings (at least four per annum).

And to make sure you fully understand the work of ONR, you'll also need to complete an induction into the role.

The person
To join, you'll hold a CCAB qualification (or similar).

You'll also bring a high level of strategic financial and commercial awareness, as well as good knowledge of risk management techniques.

Your expertise will cover everything from value for money assessmentand modernisation and transformation programmes, with a clear understanding of accounting, the audit process and annual reporting requirements.

You'll also be confident carrying our assurance mapping and performance and risk management, and you'll know howto secure maximum value from external and internal audit resources.

Plus, you'll understand public finance and managing public money and the role of audit in corporate governance.

Security vetted to SC level (or prepared to obtain this), you'll know the importance of being objective, honest and responsible.

With excellentcommunication and interpersonal skills, you can engage with, challenge and support senior leaders.

The rewards
For you, the rewards will come from playing a useful role in society. Knowing that you're helping a national regulator to work responsibly will bring you tremendous satisfaction.

To cover the costs of your work and recognise your commitment, we offer anannual honorarium of £5,000 plus reasonable travel expenses.
