Description

We are looking for a cardiac anaesthetist to take up a permanent full-time position within our supportive and forward-thinking team.

The primary responsibility of this role is for anaesthesia and post-operative critical care of patients attending the Sussex Cardiac Centre.

There will also be the opportunity for non-cardiac anaesthetic clinical pursuits as part of the role within the wider Trust.

It is essential that the post-holder should hold the FRCA (or an equivalent qualification), have undertaken a minimum of 1 year of subspecialty training in cardiac anaesthesia, and be on the GMC specialist register (or will obtain a relevant CCT/CESR within 6 months of interview).

On-call duties require covering of emergency cardiothoracic surgical procedures and predictable and unpredictable care of patients on CICU (Cardiac Intensive Care Unit).

Out-of-hours, there are Advance Nurse Practitioners (ANPs) and a middle-grade surgical cover of the CICU and the anaesthetic cover is provided for airway or ventilation emergencies by the senior trainees covering general theatres.

The post holder accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation, where practicable, with their colleagues, both senior and junior.

While it has been agreed between the professions that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that additional commitments arising under this sub-section are exceptions and you should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.
