Description

The post holder will be part of a visible, proactive Infection Prevention and Control Team across all of the North West Anglia Foundation Trust hospital sites acting as a role model with a positive professional image of the team and the organisation.

They will support the Chief Nurse and Director of Infection Prevention and Control and Infection Prevention and Control Lead Nursein meeting national requirements to reduce healthcare associated infections.


  • Champion infection control by working alongside front line staff to ensure compliance with infection control procedures
  • Support wards to ensure e track Covid19 data is up to date
  • To undertake audit and surveillance work under the supervision of the Infection Prevention and Control Nurses/Practitioners
  • Support the Infection Prevention and Control Nurses/Practitioners by completing administrative tasks such as writing letters, filing and maintaining databases, data inputting
  • Support the Infection Prevention Control team with any emerging infections
The IPC team covers five site we have expanded in the past 2 years.

The team are supportive and have key working relations with


Members of the Patient Safety Team such as the Tissue Visibility, Continence and Nutrition and Hydration Nurse Specialists, Clinical Risk Advisor, Matrons,Ward Managers and all grades of ward nursing staff, General Managers, Clinical Leads, Practice Development Team, Infection Control Team, Deputy Chief Nurse, Chief Nurse, Patients and Carers.

Clinical


The post holder will:


  • Ensure infection control procedures are carried out in accordance with policies and procedures in operation.
  • Raise awareness within the Trust of infection control practice issues.
  • Be responsible for communicating positive results to patients and GPs by sending letters
  • To be a visible part of the team and support the Infection control team with everyday surveillance such as side room checks
  • To ensure that ward staff have update information on etrack such as the infection control alerts
Education and Training


The post holder will:


  • Support with the content and running of the Infection prevention and Control Link Practitioner programme and education programmes for all staff according to the Trust wide plan
  • Act as a positive role model in providing clinically effective care to patients.
  • Assist the Infection Prevention and Control Team with awareness campaigns
Audit and Surveillance


The post holder will:


  • Work with Infection Control practitioner and the Infection Control Assistant to assist with the data collection in line with the Trust audit and surveillance programme
  • Provide surveillancebased support during outbreaks of infection as required
  • Undertake observational audit of wards and departments using audit tools devised by specialist nurses

The post holder will:


  • Act as an effective clinical and professional role model supporting the Infection Prevention and Control Team through mentoring, teaching, counselling and appropriately documenting discussions
  • Maintain own knowledge, skill and competence
  • Keep updated on new advances in the field of Infection Prevention and Control
  • Attend study days/courses/conferences as required
  • Participate in coaching, clinical supervision and personal development review
