Your new role


In this exciting role you will be responsible for developing and implementing sustainable HSE systems and procedures and supporting the effective rollout to all departments with continued maintenance to ensure reliability.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Develop and maintain a proactive Health, Safety and Environmental culture within Hitachi Rail.
  • Identify and implement appropriate systems to manage all aspects of Health, Safety and Environment
  • Ensure that the relevant documentation relating to the requirements of COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations) are compliant with external requirements.
  • Ensure that relevant documentation relating to the Health & safety and Environmental Systems are issued in accordance with the company policy.
  • Coordinating all aspects of pollution control, waste management, recycling, environmental health and conservation
  • Maintain compliance and complete submission of packaging compliance data
  • Review and update of the HSE legal register as required
  • Manage the risk assessment process ensuring adequate levels of risk assessments are performed and records maintained. Provide recommendations for improvement as part of management reviews.
  • Manage the investigation of accidents and incidents, report findings and ensuring actions are complete.
  • The effective operation of internal safety and environmental audit programme.
  • Support and where required chair the site HSE committee meeting and issue minutes
  • Oversee first aid arrangements
  • Organise and deliver HSE training
  • Write and issue reports as required
  • Write and issue Health and Safety briefings
  • Carry out regular safety audits and tours
  • Carry out Health and Safety monitoring and assessments
  • Develop and lead health and safety and environmental initiatives
  • Manage PPE
  • Liaison with Hitachi and external personnel as required by the duties of the post.
  • Any other duties commensurate with the position as and when required.
  • To be aware of and actively promote and implement Hitachi's ethos, culture and values.
  • To adhere to the Hitachi Rail Ltd Equal Opportunities Policy.
  • To comply with and implement Hitachi Rail Ltd Health and Safety policy.
  • To deputise for the HSE Manager as determined by business needs
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as may be required

About you

Key Skills & Experience

Essential Requirements

  • Experience of Health, Safety and environmental management in an engineering operation of a similar size and complexity
  • Experience as an internal auditor
  • Practical experience of Environmental permitting, ISO 45001, ISO14001 and or similar management systems
  • Fluent with Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Proactive, enthusiastic and a have dedicated work ethic
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Professional
  • Approachable
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to deal with people at all levels
  • Working knowledge of occupational health issues
  • Commitment to working as part of a team

Qualifications

  • Qualified to a minimum of NEBOSH Certificate level
  • Relevant environmental qualification. (IEMA)
