Job Title:
Senior Night Care Assistant within a Nursing Home


Responsible to:
Home Manager/Nurse in Charge


Principal duties and responsibilities:


  • Perform the duties as directed by the management and fulfil the Willowbank's contractual agreement with the purchaser and service user.
  • Listen to the requests of the resident and wherever possible perform duties consistent with their wishes.
  • To assist the manager in implementing the requirements of H&SAW Act, 1974 (including the 1992 amendments;) COSHH 2002; Food Hygiene Regulations 2006, Equality Act 2010.
  • Follow the Willowbank's "Code of Conduct."
  • Inform the management of changes in your health or circumstances, which may effect your performance or ability such as a back injury.
  • Must be double vaccinated for covid as per government regulations for social care settings.

Job Specification:

To provide care for the service users under the guidance and supervision of the Home Manager, trained nursing staff and senior care assistants; and to undertake other activities to assist in the running of the Home as required.

To work and promote equality & diversity by being inclusive of race, culture and background of all residents and work colleagues.

Enable all staff to develop to their full potential ensuring policies, procedures and processes don't discriminate.

Be aware of Willowbanks safeguarding and whistleblowing policy on how to report concerns about an adult who may be at risk from harm.


Person Specification:

The overall purpose of the care assistant's job is to care for the day-to-day needs of the client respecting their
rights, choice, dignity and
privacy, encouraging their
independence, thus contributing to the positive aspects of care.

This will involve the provision of personal, social and domestic care, as advised by the manager, respecting confidentiality at all times.


Essential:
Genuine interest in working within a caring environment

Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.

Team Player

Willingness to participate in vocational training programmes

Satisfactory police check and check against the ISA list (where applicable)

Basic understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act

Basic understanding of Infection Control


Desirable:
Previous experience of working in a care setting

Relevant Vocational Qualification (achieved or working towards)

Evidence of having undertaken relevant training (ie lifting and handling, health and safety,

food hygiene etc.

  • Assist the client with dressing and undressing. Ensuring the clients curtains and door are shut appropriately.
  • Assisting with pressure area care if stated in care plans client to be turned 2hrly
  • All clients
    MUST be checked at least 2hrly at night unless nurse has stated otherwise, possibly because of a client disclaimer.
  • To assist the service users in personal care including washing, bathing, dressing and toilet needs.
  • Responding promptly to nurse call alarms
  • To report any accidents or unexplained injuries immediately to the nurse in charge.
  • To ensure that service users are socially presentable in appearance at all times.
  • To ensure that service users have any aids e.g.
  • Dentures, Hearing Aids, Spectacles etc fitted, cleaned and in working order.
  • To assist in the cleaning of the Home as the rotas particularly dining areas after meals and to support Infection control e.g. cleaning up spills immediately.
  • To pay due respect to service users' possessions and to ensure that bedrooms and communal areas are tidy and presentable.
  • To be resourceful in the use of supplies.
  • To work at all times, within the guidelines of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Employee Handbook and Company Health and Safety Policy and Procedure.
  • To be aware of all fire exit means of escape from the Home.
  • To complete all Company Health and Safety and Fire checks as requested.
  • To ensure readiness to commence work at the time stated on the Duty Rota and not to abandon duty without permission from the Home Manager or Nurseincharge.
  • To adhere to the policy relating to personal appearance and the uniform policy whilst on duty.
  • To ensure that articles for laundry are sluiced if soiled before placing into correct container.
  • To read and implement the Company Policy and Procedure for Infection Control.
  • To ensure the appropriate segregation of waste material. That it is disposed of in accordance with current legislation and Company Policy and Procedure for Infection Control.
  • To report to the Nurse in Charge any changes in individual service user's condition and any other relevant matter, noting especially and changes in skin condition.
  • To report to the Nurse in Charge any verbal concerns or complaints raised by the service user or visitors.
  • To recognise your own caring limitations and to seek guidance from the Home Manager or trained nursing staff
