We are looking for a Consultant in Palliative medicine to join our integrated palliative care team to work across the county.

An innovative team and opportunity for service re-design with ICB.


Main duties of the job:

Review patients with complex palliative care needs and support to the specialist nurses in Acute hospitals, community and hospices.

Role in Education to medical students, junior doctors and system-wide multidisciplinary teams.


Working for our organisation:


Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CFT) is the principal provider of mental health, learning disability, universal children's services and Palliative care to people living in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.


The Trust employs 3700 people and with an annual budget in the region of £150 million is one of the largest local employers.

The Trust was formed as a specialist provider in April 2002 following reorganisation of local NHS Trusts. It was licensed as a Foundation Trust in March 2010 and acquired community children's services in April 2011. From April 2016 it also provides adult community services.


Detailed job description and main responsibilities:
The Primary responsibilities will be to deliver specialist palliative care services delivered within Cornwall.

This will include collaborating with the Specialist Palliative Care nurses in the local acute trust (NHS) offering an in reach, supportive service to this team and the wider hospital where required, and the Community Specialist Care Nursing teams (NHS)


To work on site with the local Hospice (within the charity sector) which currently has x- 10 bedded units in the county.


To be accessible to the wider healthcare professional community in the ability to offer timely advice and expertise in the management of patients with specialist palliative care needs.


The local integrated Care Board (ICB) is currently refreshing the Cornwall End of life strategy and the services within and so this is an exciting time of transformation and within the role an opportunity to be involved in this work.


Cornwall Partnership trust is committed to the teaching and training of university of Exeter medical students and the current palliative care team play a key role in this teaching.
