The role is to support the Service Manager with the operational management of the services within the MSK department. The key element of the role will be the co-ordination of the medical rota across the two CSUs.

The post holder will be required to work closely with Consultants and Junior Doctors to ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained and the services are not adversely impacted.


Additionally the post holder will be involved with forward planning of services such as clinics and theatres to maintain elective activity where possible as well as PTL validation, attending theatre planning meetings and Bed Management.


The aim of the role is to implement, embed and maintain processes and control procedures to ensure that leave arrangements, rota's and agency and locum utilisation are effectively managed.


Interview Date:


  • Monitoring and completion of RTAs, Escalation Forms and MDO forms
  • To ensure that the processes for doctor's joining/leaving the division are efficiently and effectively managed to shorten the period for which locums may be required.
  • In conjunction with HR colleagues, establish an internal locum bank for medical staff with an appropriate and attractive financial reward package.
  • To develop and embed Divisional and CSU control mechanisms for locum spend.
  • To manage the Medical Staff E-Leave Policy in collaboration with the CSU.
  • To work with the CSU's to ensure future compliance with the Leave Policy.
  • To maintain the escalation process for leave requests.
  • To maintain the escalation process for noncompliance to the policy.

  • To manage processes for capturing and recording annual, sick, study and professional leave.
  • To establish forward looking clinical Rotas to clearly identify gaps and if possible provide cover.
  • Develop close working relationships with the CSU triumvirates to release clinicians to concentrate on service delivery.
  • Ensure Rotas are updated on a daily basis and produced 68 weeks in advance.
  • To develop and establish rota rules within the CSUs.
  • Attend monthly meetings with Medical Staffing and act as a link between the CSU and Medical Staffing
  • Input to the hard to recruit to process and be a point of feedback from the juniors regarding the rota
  • Link with the Deanery where information is required and to be alert to any changes with the training requirements
  • Provide up to date induction packs during rotation weeks explaining the CSU processes to junior doctors
  • Be the point of contact for the junior doctors when they are requesting any leave or on call changes
  • Create and implement EWTD compliant rotas in conjunction with Medical Staffing.
