Why Lancaster?

We're an award-winning, kind and responsible council, and we're incredibly proud of our district and communities that reach from the coast to the mountains, including the historic City of Lancaster, Morecambe, Carnforth and many other beautiful places.

The Role
We have an exciting opportunity to join a front-line service.

Many of Lancaster's most prominent and beautiful historic listed buildings are owned and managed by Lancaster City Council, such as Lancaster and Morecambe Town Halls.

Within the Facilities Management Team, the Facilities Support Officers are at the front line of caring for these buildings and their occupants.

Taking care of security, maintenance, mailroom, health and safety, meeting set ups, supporting large scale functions and events, and ensuring excellent working environments for our staff.

As a Facilities Support Officer you will assist in all of these aspects as well as being a key holder for our main sites.

Full training is given and no specific previous experience is required, although experience in building caretaking would be beneficial. We are looking for individuals who are reliable, positive and take initiative. The role involves interaction with staff, Councillors, building tenants, public and other building users.

This post is permanent.

This is a 30-hour per week post, working five out of seven days, arranged on a weekly basis to suit the needs of the service.

This will include evenings, weekends and bank holidays. You may also be required to work additional hours on occasion.

The post holder will also participate in the Council's out of hours standby scheme for emergency call outs to the buildings, for which there is an additional payment.

A full current UK driving licence is essential, as the post holder will be required to drive for mailroom and standby duties, as well as porterage of items between sites.

About You
You will identify with our organisational values of Pride, Ownership, Working Together and Ambition.

Our Benefits
Lancaster is a great place to work, as well as being part of something special you will also benefit from:

  • Generous annual leave allowance
  • Local Government Pension Scheme
  • A range of employee benefits including discounted gym membership, cycle to work scheme, the opportunity to purchase extra time off, as well as discounts on days out, activities and retail.

Lancaster City Council has unanimously declared a climate emergency and will therefore work towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030.

As part of this role, you will be expected to participate and work towards reducing both carbon emissions and the impacts of climate change.

We are a disability confident committed employer.
