Description

Working in South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, the main purpose of the Physiotherapy Apprentice role is to provide high standard physiotherapy whilst undertaking level 6 study toward a BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy Degree.

As a Physiotherapy Apprentice, you will be provided with the opportunity to work in a variety of physiotherapy specialties across the Trust.

You will be released one day a week for virtual or university study days and you will be released for clinical placements.

A Physiotherapy Mentor will be assigned to you to support you through the programme.


This will enable you to use knowledge, skill and competence gained on the programme to support the health and care system whilst progressing with your degree.

It is expected that the level of responsibility will increase throughout the degree programme; developing toward being responsible for the management for your own caseload and maintaining accurate and up to date clinical records with supervision from a HCPC registrant Physiotherapist.


The main responsibilities include:
To attend University and Clinical Placements as set out in the degree programme.

Actively pursue all opportunities to use protected learning time to develop your skills, knowledge and competencies in relation to the Physiotherapy programme.


To complete and pass academic modules and clinical placements to the required standard in order to progress through the programme.

To ensure timely achievement in accordance with the academic programme requirements. To complete and pass the End Point Assessment.

Whilst in your substantive role, work alongside HCPC registered Physiotherapists and other professionals to develop knowledge, skills and competence to progress your education and training.


Recognise and consistently work within the boundaries of your role: unless supervised by a HCPC registrant Physiotherapist, only undertake activity that has been competency assessed.

Work as part of a team to deliver care that focuses on the direct care needs of the individual, delivered in line with the defined plans of care.
