Job summary:


Are you currently holding a Technical Leadership role and work in one of the following areas:

Software engineering, embedded electronics and hardware systems, product design, software defined radios, and/or systems engineering?

The Special Projects (SP) Technical Leadership team performs a multi-disciplinary role delivering high-impact science and technology to meet some of HMG's most challenging national security requirements, as well as leading the development of bespoke capabilities for specialist users in rapid timescales.-
This is work you cannot do anywhere else.

Job description:


In this role you will:


  • Be responsible for the delivery of a portion of the SP research and development backlog. This will be through a mix of strong technical leadership, writing, and reviewing abilities for industry and academic partnering as well as internal research and development;
  • Have the opportunity to work within a fastpaced environment, focused on delivering operational products to tight timescales. We are looking for individuals who have a proactive attitude and are happy working autonomously;
  • Lead the development of bespoke systems for military operations.
  • Conduct research into surveillance techniques, secure communications, and computer network systems;
  • Stay up to date on the latest technologies and research trends by participating in further education, workshops and international conferences;
  • Develop on customisable Windows, Mac, or Linux workstations;
  • Work with Government partners nationally or internationally;
  • Lead possible work packages and small teams of engineers as appropriate to complete tasks.

Person specification:


We are looking for someone who:

  • Designs, prioritises, and facilitates the delivery of work, based on user requirements and the changing technological and operational landscapes.
  • You will:
  • Gain unique skills and knowledge in new areas required to understand the tools and techniques to keep pace with operational requirements;
  • Lead activities that require PCB design and adaptation, and guiding the work of more junior staff in this area;
  • Prioritise time and effort to balance the demands of fast paced operational support projects with longer running research;
  • Maintain quality, assurance and standards of work whilst delivering to deadlines.
  • Utilise softer skills, such as reviewing an analyst's report from an industry supplier; facilitating the commercial process for equipment procurement with partners across government and industry; and briefing the team's science and technology achievements to VIPs.

Important Information

  • This role will require full UK security clearance and you should have resided in the UK for the past 5 years. For some roles Developed Vetting will also be required, in this case you should have resided in the UK for the past 10 years.
