As part of this investment we are looking to recruit a
Carriage Cleaner/ Relief Shunter, on a full time, permanent nights basis based in
Worcester.

You will ensure that units arriving, departing and stabling are dealt with safety, efficiency. Shunting takes precedence over all other activities.


What does the job involve?

  • Control of the arrival and departure of trains to depot and liaise with relevant staff.
  • Carry out CET duties on all shifts and Tanking duties on units departing the depot between the hours of 0600 and 2000 where there are no cleaning staff available.
  • Notification of defects (e.g. including interior condition, facility, infrastructure) via appropriate reporting system.
  • Maintain and compile records & logs (e.g shunting paperwork, daily/weekly information).
  • Winterisation of hand points around the sidings and assist around the depot at the Team Leader's request. (Nothing that shunting takes precedence over all other activities)
  • General housekeeping of facilities and areas within operating department only yard.
  • Other operational duties (e.g. planned audits, checks, infrastructure inspections).
  • Control of appropriate depot systems (e.g. monitoring CCTV for security reasons).
  • Cab front and windscreen cleaning between the hours of 0600 and 2000 where there are no cleaning staff available.
  • Be on the contact point for Network Rail, trains operations staff and Soho visitors to operational areas.
  • Drive company vehicles and operate forklift truck as required once passed as competent to do so.
  • ASSIST Stores (Limited to movement of materials and stock taking only).
  • Conduct other activities as agreed to include maintaining of tail lamps and painting of points levers.
  • The movement and transfer of cleaning fluid from bulk storage to the wash plant holding tank.
  • When on the spare turn, and not carrying out the duties above the relief will undertake the following tasks under the direction of the level 4 manager or workshop team leader
  • Carry out body side washing of units requiring body side washing
  • Carry out labouring duties around the site to include workshop and materials areas cleaning.
  • Carry out minor projects and modifications such a poster/sticker updates on 323 units.
  • Carry out painting of plant or depot as required.

What skills and experience do I need to do the job?

  • Pass out on Rules and Regulations
  • Track safety
  • Traction knowledge (i.e. type)
  • SCWR permit.
  • Certified in SPTS or equivalent
  • DOP prep at relevant sites.
