Our Content and Editorial team is responsible for monitoring press, broadcast and online content for an extensive list of clients.

News Researchers play a critical role in providing our media monitoring service with responsibility for viewing, assessing, and delivering news items to meet our clients' complex requirements.

Person Specification


Press Data is looking for a highly motivated individual with a keen interest in media and current affairs to join our Content and Editorial team as a News Researcher.

Our team of researchers come from a range of backgrounds. Many are graduates, often with qualifications in journalism, media or politics. Others have direct experience in public relations, communications, or journalism and media‐based roles. What they all have in common is a passion for news and an all‐round understanding of UK current affairs.


The ability to produce accurate work to a series of tight deadlines is essential, as is the aptitude to interpret a large and diverse amount of information.

A significant part of this role will involve working quickly and accurately with bespoke media monitoring software. The successful applicant must be comfortable working with technology.


We are looking for someone who is organised, motivated and able to work across a range of tasks, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.


The individual must share the values of the company and be able to communicate this positively to all clients and colleagues.


The person we are looking for must:

  • Have an outstanding knowledge and understanding of UK current affairs
  • Have excellent, proven communication skills, and be able to deal effectively with people at different levels both internally and externally
  • Be highly organised and have the ability to effectively manage and prioritise their work to meet multiple deadlines
  • Be able to interpret and evaluate information accurately and at speed
  • Have excellent literacy skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Be confident using technology
  • Be able to work diligently, alone if necessary, and to respond to a wide variety of situations as they arise
  • Be able to maintain good concentration levels within a busy working environment
  • Behave in a professional manner with colleagues and clients

JOB DESCRIPTION

NEWS RESEARCHER - CONTENT AND EDITORIAL

EDINBURGH

Hours Variable 71⁄2 hour shifts between 06:00 and 00:00 (includes 30‐minute break)

Normally 5 consecutive days per week including one weekend shift.
Total working hours are 35 hours per week.


Location Edinburgh


Press Data offers a hybrid working model in some roles, which offers the ability to work from home for up to two days a week.

The initial training period is office based.


Salary £18,200 starting salary

Our Content and Editorial team is responsible for monitoring press, broadcast and online content for an extensive list of clients.

News Researchers play a critical role in providing our media monitoring service with responsibility for viewing, assessing, and delivering news items to meet our clients' complex requirements.

The team provide summaries of broadcast programmes and verbatim transcripts of broadcast items for a range of clients. It is essential that all summaries and transcripts are accurate and delivered to meet tight deadlines.


In addition, team members are required to handle some content delivery to clients, ensuring the highest standards of quality control.
