JOB TITLE:

MELT AND POUR OPERATIVE

SALARY:

£11.00 per hour

DEPARTMENT:

39 HOURS A WEEK

MON - WED 07:30 - 16:30

THURS - 07:30 - 16:00

FRIDAY - 07:30 - 13:00

REPORTS TO:

Melt and Pour Team Leader

JOB PURPOSE:

This is a full time role requiring commitment and extensive training over a few months.

You will need to be physically fit as manual handling is part of your daily role.

Working on the furnace melting charges of metal at very high temperature
Training to use an overhead crane which has a ladle attached carrying molten metal

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

All work will be performed with safety in mind for yourself, coworkers and equipment at all times
To work within guidelines of the company rules and comply with H&S standards
To maintain the equipment and work area in a clean and organised manner
Inspect furnaces, lining, equipment to locate defects and wear
Record heat number to ensure tractability
5s within the department
Operate controls to move or discharge metal workpieces from furnaces
Weigh materials to be charged into furnaces, using scales
Drain, transfer or remove molten metal from furnaces and transport into other furnaces or moulds
Scrape accumulations of metal oxides from floors, molds, and crucibles, and sift and store them for reclamation
Observe operations of the furnaces to ensure that problems do not occur
Use of fork truck and crane driving full training will be provided

Previous experience/Key requirements:

Prior experience operating furnaces and operation experience in a heavy manufacturing environment desired
Able to read, write, and speak English without the aid of a translator
Ability to compute percentages, proportions, perform basic mathematics calculations
Will maintain a neat and organized work area
Working with safety in mind at all times
Must be able to understand written instructions
