Your new role:


Are you an innovative, self-motivated team player with experience of working with children and young people who display SEMH behaviours that are often challenging? Are you solution focused and passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people? If so, the Inclusion Outreach Team at Southend City Council want to hear from you.

The Inclusion Outreach Team support young people, schools and families.

You will work as part of a team to ensure Inclusion Outreach provide a responsive, consistent service across the city of Southend.


Your role will include working directly with children who are displaying distressed behaviours and act as a point of contact for schools, providing, strategies advice and guidance.

Working closely with all stakeholders, you will coproduce bespoke support plans for young people and schools to aid in managing a variety of SEMH behaviours.

You will support and deliver a range of training packages to assist schools in effectively managing and supporting young people in their settings.

You will signpost schools and parents to a variety of supports on offer throughout Southend and parts of Essex.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required to effectively liaise with headteachers and their representatives, with confidence to challenge where appropriate based on evidence.

You will actively contribute to the Inclusion Outreach Teams strategy to promote inclusion, identify and remove barriers to learning, reduce suspensions and permanent exclusions in Southend and support reintegration into education.


This post is Term time (+ 3weeks) and thus the salary will be pro rata (actual salary will be based on 42 weeks)

What you'll need to succeed:


To be successful in this role, you will bring your knowledge and experience of working with pupils with SEMH/distressed behaviours, supporting school staff and be confident in delivering training and coaching.

You will have the ability to manage your own caseload, complete assessments, work collaboratively to produce and review plans and record accurately using our case management system.

Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential to the success of this role.

This is both a challenging and rewarding role and requires a cohesive approach to service delivery, using innovation to gain trust and form collaborative relationships with others.
