Job summary:

This is an exciting time to join the Department for International Trade (DIT). The work we do has a real impact on jobs and growth across the United Kingdom. Our mission is to help businesses export, drive inward and outward investment, negotiate market access and trade deals. We are an international department based in 108 countries, and we work closely with our colleagues worldwide.

We are recruiting for a HEO role in the Briefings and Commissions Team, which sits within the UK Exports Directorate in Exports and UK Trade.

The team is responsible for answering to, strategically coordinating and delivering high profile cross-cutting briefings and commissions for the Export Directorate, which come in from Private Office, wider DIT briefing and policy teams and cross-Whitehall.

This role will suit those interested in an agile and fast paced role where you will have exposure to Senior Officials and Ministers, while gaining high-level policy knowledge and operational delivery exposure, as well as opportunities for development.

We work closely with officials to promote the capability building of colleagues across the department, while also spotting new opportunities on where the Briefings and Commissions Team can provide value.

Job description:

  • Coordinate and deliver highquality crosscutting briefings and material for Senior Officials and Ministers, ensuring they are delivered on time and of the appropriate quality.
  • Coordinate and deliver highquality returns on commissions and Business as Usual requests, including PQs, FOIs and Audit reporting.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with colleagues within DIT, including those in Private Offices, and across Whitehall.
  • Develop lines to take regarding policy priorities, working to understand and influence businesses.
  • Maintain and update a crossDirectorate briefings and commissions tracker, spotting issues and areas to prioritise.
  • Identifying and monitoring team risks and issues, aligning with other briefing teams and strategy directorate projects.
  • Work as a team player, helping colleagues and promoting a positive team culture.

Hybrid working
Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.

Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.

Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average.

If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting.
