Your new role
National Highways are recruiting for 2 National Valuations Leads (Property and Compensation) to join our Major Projects (MP) directorate.


As a National Valuations Lead, you will support National Highways land and property compensation across different directorates including Major Projects, Operations and Lower Thames Crossing, who can provide detailed evaluation of the acquisition and compensation advice in negotiation of high value residential and commercial properties and development land/businesses.


You will identify, develop and deliver strategic commercial advice and best practise, leading continuous improvement and increased capability across the P&C function whilst collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders, internally and externally.


What you'll be leading on

  • You will Lead on review and manage the delivery of specialist valuation support requirements for the Land Cost Estimates (LCE) for projects land requirements and identify benefits of specialist planning and property valuation advice.
  • Lead on internal valuation process and coordination to ensure complex acquisitions and compensation claims in compliance with Compulsory Purchase Orders are settled in a timely manner and offer Value For Money.
  • Liaise with the property supply chain to ensure consistent P&C expectations and compliant with the laws that govern the compulsory acquisition of land and property.
  • Undertake LCE reviews where high value and specialist land and property is impacted, and determine the appropriate procurement route for additional support, whilst accounting for conflicts of interests, and deliver in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with our principal provider of valuation services and constructively challenge and identify whether additional support is required to deliver the best outcome on negotiations where necessary.
  • Identify whether there are improvements in valuations practice and knowledge retention to improve the P&C service.
  • Lead on improvements in health and safety performance ensuring best practice is promoted amongst staff and partners and carry out any tasks identified to the post, including safety tours.

To be successful you'll need

  • Chartered Surveyor and Registered Valuer or experience in managing valuation advice for complex property holdings including development land.
  • Significant experience and knowledge of best practice across several land & property valuation areas, with specific reference to two areas of residential and commercial, industrial and office development.
  • Knowledge and experience of working in a property/land environment or compulsory purchase environment.
  • Able to demonstrate as a leader who has delivered service improvements directly or through third party suppliers.
  • Experience of contract/supplier management at a leadership level.
