Santander UK is consolidating all Digital programmes into one Digital organisation under the leadership of the newly appointed Chief Digital Officer (CDiO).

Santander's Digital capability will be critical in delivering improvements to the customer experience, launching new business capabilities and service offerings while achieving operational cost savings and efficiencies.


The Digital Team will need to transform to utilise large-scale agile delivery methods, modern delivery best practice underpinned by new technology products inc.

Bank-as-a-Service (BaaS) APIs, and a public cloud platform - ultimately increasing the frequency of software releases, adopting automation to reduce manual effort and improve quality.


The difference you'll make.

  • Assisting the Head of API Channel in aligning delivery teams and outcomes to the API strategy as it evolves across Santander, and working across all business lines to link this to business strategies
  • D efining and implementing the API operating model through Agile ways of working.
  • Aligning and supporting teams to the Digital governance model including leadership accountabilities, key meetings, metrics and delivery data, and controls. Enabling robust planning practices across large programmes. Working across existing PMO teams in digital to support the governance model. Also act as a Head of Department delegate escalation point for any governance issue.
  • Supporting the implementation of the Santander Software Delivery Lifecycle with the associated tools and processes to drive consistency and quality across all teams.
  • Mentoring more Junior members of staff, providing training and guidance to help individuals achieve their career goals.
  • Leading key digital initiatives and backlogs, focusing in particular on providing leadership to drive out clear interdependencies between API Providers & Consumers, handling issue/risk escalation from appointed initiative product and tech leads.

What you'll bring.

  • Senior Delivery Management experience of day to day leadership of key digital initiatives and backlogs, focusing in particular on providing leadership to bridge the gap between API Providers and Consumers. Also experience of liaising with Senior Stakeholders and at times deputising for Head of Department.


  • Planning

  • Experience enabling robust planning practices across large programmes and effective reporting. Experience working across existing teams in digital to support the governance model.
  • Digital and API strategy
    Assisting the Head of API Channel in defining & implementing the API operating model / strategy & aligning API teams as it evolves across Santander, working across all business lines to link this to business strategies.
  • Exceptional problem solving skills, organisational and process improvement skills, ability to manage multiple conflicting interests and deadlines
  • Has good knowledge of Modern Technologies & Software Architectures
    , including Microservices architectures and APIs, Container Platforms, Cloud, iterative /product development, test automation & pipeline technologies

It would also be nice for you to have.

  • Has good knowledge of API ecosystems & ways of working, including Open Banking technologies and practices
  • Comprehensive understanding of the digital climate, digital best practice, design principles and standards, plus the opportunities this creates to ensure we remain relevant for our customers
  • Understands and appreciates the difference between Project driven delivery and Product based delivery and ownership
  • Experience of leading high performing teams and managing through change

What else you need to know.
We will be conducting all interviews via telephone or video-conference where possible.

This is a permanent role to be based at our Milton Keynes office with some remote working. Time spent working from the Milton Keynes site is expected to be 2 days per week initially.
