Description

To oversee the overall support function of the Trusts Outpatient department, inclusive of clinical support staff and reception staff across the Trusts 3 clinical sites and 9 outpatient departments.

Ensuring a first class support service to clinical teams using outpatients.

To oversee a number of clinical services directly, including integrated MSK, Rheumatology and to lead on the Trusts prevention work streams.


Drive forwards the transformation of Outpatients in line with the NHS long term plan and operating guidance provided by NHS England.

Explore new, innovative ways of working that are patient centred and provide best value for both patients and the Trust.

Maintain a high quality, patient safety focused environment thus contributing to the overall strategic objectives of the Trust.


Work in collaboration across the organisation with clinicians and operational managers and with system partners (inclusive of patients) to ensure that pathway changes are driven by the system to provide the best care possible for the people we serve whilst avoiding waste, duplication and the transfer of demand to the detriment of patient care.


Promote and steer the Trusts prevention workstreams in line with the Trusts and ICB strategy which currently involves work relating to smoking, alcohol, physical activity, medication management and obesity with making every contact count a golden thread which runs through the programme of work.


  • To work with the Care Group Manager to continue to transform outpatients in line with local and national priorities ensuring the model is both clinically safe and cost effective.
  • Provide an Outpatient service which reflects NHSE recommendations by removing unwarranted variation and improving efficiencies.
  • Provide operational support to a number of clinical specialties
  • Support the trust as part of the Global digital exemplar (GDE) plans
  • Continue to develop and refine the Trusts outpatient strategy
  • Work closely with the Consultant in Public health and local Directors of public health across local authorities to ensure that prevention work streams are lined up support the reduction in health inequalities across the region
  • Seek funding opportunities for prevention, population health programmes
  • To work with the care group SMT and business support to produce the annual Business Plan, following a process which fully involves clinical and professional staff and which will contribute to the Local Delivery Planning process and contract management.
