If you are interested in local sustainable food growing and promoting healthy eating, we are currently recruiting a dynamic and energetic Packing Co-ordinator/Driver to join our team.


Windmill Community Gardens Margate aims to deliver social, environmental and health benefits whilst supporting people to learn about food growing, cooking and outdoor activities together.

The project has a community garden and market garden of one acre each. We grow, sell and share chemical free produce on a coproduced basis with members of the local community.


Job description

Job Title:
Vegetable Packing Co-ordinator / Delivery Driver**Contract aligned with funding until 3rd May 2025.

Hours: 12 hours per week on Wednesdays and Thursdays


Job Purpose:

To co-ordinate and undertake vegetable packing and delivering and collection of ordered in produce for the Veg Bag scheme and for orders to restaurants, Veg Bag customers and other community outlets, ensuring correct quantities and quality control.

May also from time to time involve supervising volunteer and work placements in the harvesting, preparation, weighing and packing of vegetables.


Key Responsibilities:


  • To collect/ help harvest, prepare, weigh and pack harvested and bought in vegetables for the Veg Bag scheme and other orders.
  • To deliver weekly orders for the Veg Bag scheme; orders to restaurants, and collect materials for composting when necessary using WCGM Van
  • To maintain high standards of Health & Safety and quality.
  • To communicate any issues that need addressing regarding orders and deliveries with the Veg Box Coordinator; Lead Community Food Grower; Assistant Food grower and harvesters regarding quantities and quality.
  • To instruct volunteer and work placements in assisting in the packing and preparation of the vegetables.
  • Assist with education visits / events / open days.
  • To ensure positive and productive relationships within WCGM with members of staff, volunteers, participants, service users and partners.
  • Ensure compliance with all WCGM Policies and procedures and Practice and particularly those for Safeguarding Children and Adults at Risk.
  • Ensure Health & Safety compliance onsite and comply with the General Data Protection Regulation 201
  • Ensure regular vehicle safety checks and action needed is reported and undertaken in a timely fashion
  • Undertake activities that support the continuity of the business e.g. cover for absence, collection/delivery as required by the Manager.
  • Attend required meetings and reviews
  • Attend training and development events as required.
  • Any other duties agreed with Line Manager.

Communication and Working Relationships

Internal:

WCGM Trustees, WCGM Programme Manager, Community Food Grower, Veg Box scheme Co-ordinator, Team Leader, volunteers, service users and those on work experience placements.


External:
Restaurants, customers and drop off points


Performance Review


This job description will be used as a basis for individual performance review between the post holder and the Line Manager.


This job description covers only the main responsibilities, specific objectives will be set and reviewed every six months and may change to meet the changing needs of the service.


The post holder will comply with the employing authorities 'Terms and Conditions' including Equal Opportunities Policy, Child Protection Policy, Health & Safety, Confidentiality Guidelines and the General Data Protection Regulation, (GDPR).


PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential:


  • Good communication skills.
  • A knowledge and passion for seasonal vegetables.
  • A focus on accuracy, quality and organisational skills.
  • Full and clean UK Driving license (held for 3 years plus) and ability to drive a van
  • Compliance with and commitment to the principles of Equal Opportunities.
  • Commitment to the aims of Windmill Community Gardens Margate and its Veg bag scheme, with an understanding of the sustainable, local food agenda.
  • Willing and able to be flexible in roles / cover and do physical, outdoor tasks when required.
  • Ability to work alone and on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to compliance with WCGM Policies and Procedures.
  • Solution focussed problem solving skills using initiative to achieve the most sustainable outcome.

Desirable:


  • Experience of working with people with learning difficulties and those who may be disadvantaged.

£10.90 per hour
