This is a full time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.

Role Purpose

  • To ensure the prompt completion of all work orders for Planned maintenance, Reactive response, Specialist subcontract work orders and remedial work orders.
  • To provide Routine and Specialised Engineering Maintenance and breakdown support to a specific hospital site.
  • Provide competent Technical, Health, Safety and Environmental support & assistance as required and act as an exemplar of company policies and procedures.
  • Provide training, mentoring and handson assistance to any additional Site based Technicians or Engineering Assistants.
  • Demonstrate a cando culture based on exemplary engineering standards in an environment of open and honest integrity.

Core Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities:


  • Work at any Group Hospital within the cluster to cover for engineering absence or to supplement labour, attend meetings, or to provide specialist advice or service to site, e.g. AP duties, Mechanical, Electrical or Air Con duties to ensure continued effectiveoperational coverage.
  • To undertake scheduled tasks on site as part of the Planned Preventative maintenance routine and unplanned breakdown assistance to carry out specialist tasks which may include:
  • Catering asset Maintenance and repairs.
  • HVAC systems Maintenance and repairs.
  • Electrical small power and lighting Maintenance and repairs and PAT testing.
  • Plumbing Maintenance and repairs including drains and gullies.
  • Decontamination equipment maintenance and validation.
  • BMS adjustments and controls maintenance.
  • Fire Risk Assessment remedial works and periodic testing.
  • L8 WRA remedial works and periodic testing
  • DDA Assessment works and Fabric Maintenance and repair.
  • To ensure compliance of the Engineering Planned Preventative Maintenance Routines as detailed in the Standard operating Procedure manuals.
  • To support development of any Engineering staff who work at the site
  • Service Level Agreement (SLA) and managed effectively to reduce repeat failures.
  • Ensure all remedial tasks from PPM's or Statutory Insurance Inspections are identified, recorded and completed to time, ensure effective statutory assurance and that full records are maintained on site.
  • Manage or escalate all reactive calls which require specialist external involvement to resolve.
  • Ensure that all equipment is inspected and tested
  • Provide advice on technical and compliance issues
  • Provide technical input as required on any equipment / asset purchases.
  • Provide input, advice and support on new or existing Policies & Procedures.
  • Feedback on findings to enable a continuous improvement of planned Maintenance & Maintenance Techniques working towards a condition based maintenance regime.
  • Provide feedback and direction on the Standard Maintenance Manual to the Helpdesk and Chief Engineer.
  • To act as Authorised Person or Responsible Person MGPS
  • Provide operational support and input to Projects
  • Ensure Portable Appliance Testing (PAT Testing) is completed to ensure all portable equipment used throughout the hospital is tested at intervals defined by both policy and Risk assessment
  • Arrange and be available to participate in the oncall out of hours cover for the cluster.
  • Ensure Maintenance and repair is completed timely within agreed SLA
  • Participate in the oncall rota as advised by the cluster Senior Engineering Technician and or Local Hospital managers and deliver oncall response to all sites within the cluster.

Key Performance Indicators:


  • 100% of C1 & C2 reactive tasks (KPI Statutory Compliance)
  • 100% of Mandatory PPM tasks (C2PPM)
  • 90% of all other PPM and reactive tasks carried out within required timescales (KPI Service Performance)
  • Improvement of internal customer satisfaction scores and staff engagement scores.

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications:


  • Current Construction Safety Certification Scheme (CSCS) Card at appropriate level of qualification. If electrically qualified, current Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) Card required (Persons without the appropriate card will not be considered).
  • City& Guilds Part 3, ONC, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent preferably in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering essential
  • Willingness to act as AP and RP Medgas as required is essential.
  • Time served apprenticeship in a Mechanical or Electrical biased discipline essential
  • Comprehensive understanding of Health and Safety guidelines, statutes and ACOPs.
  • Understanding of L8 Legionella ACOP within Hospital buildings
  • Demonstrated high level of organisation & time management skills, particularly in an environment with multiple, and sometimes conflicting priorities
  • Sound fault finding techniques and ability to read drawings.
  • Proficient in the use of a PC, including the use of software and systems
