Description

Program + Advising Lead (summer)

Explorations at the University of Oxford, and University College London, United Kingdom

The Opportunity:

Our UK Explorations are 2-week experiential programs for high school students designed to live at the intersection of academics, industry, and culture.

Our Explorations allow young people from around the world the opportunity to explore two incredible cities, immersed in both academic study and cultural discovery.

Students and staff will spend one week on the beautiful Worcester College campus at the University of Oxford, and one week at University College London, engaging both in the classroom and amid all that both cities have to offer.

As a Programming + Advising Lead, you will help to shape a transformative residential and academic experience for our students.

Among your various responsibilities, you will serve as a residential advisor, supervising a floor of students and helping to create an enriching, safe, and supportive student life experience.

Your responsibilities will extend beyond just logistics; you'll be an integral part of our students' journey, providing support, guidance, and mentorship.

As a bridge between the academic and residential spheres, you may also assist in the classroom and on course site visits, offering support to our instructors and enhancing the overall learning environment.

In addition, you will assist in other program operations, such as coordinating engaging activities and chaperoning trips.

Programming + Advising Lead Responsibilities:

  • Work with a coAdvisor to supervise a student floor and to provide a healthy, safe, and engaging living environment for students
  • Remain oncall in the dorm every other night
  • Assist Instructors, as needed, in the classroom and on class trips
  • Chaperone students on both day and evening trips in both London and Oxford
  • Serve as support staff, communicating with families, representatives from our host institutions, and outside vendors
  • Collaborate with our Operations + Activities Coordinators on activities and other events

Applicant Requirements:

  • 2+ years of post high school experience by the summer
  • Availability to live and work on campus for the duration of the program
  • Preferred, but not required: CPR/First Aid certification (or a willingness to become certified — EXPLO would pay for the cost of certification)

Dates, Compensation, and Training:

  • Dates (inperson): June 2
  • July 13, 2024, along with some remote training sessions in the spring; oncampus, inperson training will take place on Friday, June 28 and Saturday, June 2
  • Compensation: $2,000; room and board are provided for the duration of the program, as is a partial travel stipend for applicants traveling from outside the United Kingdom.
