University Hospitals Sussex are looking for an enthusiastic individual to support the Workshop Supervisor in managingthe MechanicalWorkshop at WorthingHospital.

To efficiently maintain and provide a reliable engineering, building and groundsservices atWorthingHospital and other trustsites. Undertaking new work asmay be required with self-motivation to achieve a satisfactory result.


Effective communications must be established and maintained with staff in the Estates & Facilities Department and all other Directorates in the Trust.

Liaise with front line nursing and medical staff regarding engineering matters.

Communicate professionally with external professionals on technical matters.

This role Involves managing the Mechanical Workshop, liaising with staff members, contractors and key stakeholders.

You will be responsible for managing the maintenance and safety of water and ventilation systems throughout the site and ensuring compliance on all systems relevant to your department.

Participation in the On Call rota is expected to ensure the safety of all patients, staff and visitors.

  • Supervise staff assigned to him/her and assist in the planning, supervision and control of work programs; including the supervision of the time keeping, attendance, productivity and the quality of work and competency of Plumbing staff under his/her control.
  • Operate and maintain the Plumbing services, carry out Plumbing installation, maintenance, testing and recording works, as required.
  • Implement a preventative maintenance program for the Plumbing services.
  • Assist with the development of management systems for the performance of maintenance on the Plumbing services, incorporating best practice and quality control procedures.

  • To assist the Workshop Supervisor, Manager and head of Estates in planning and improving the existing maintenance requirements.
  • To advise on new or unforeseen maintenance needs.
  • To advise on the use and needs for new products and materials.
  • To assist in monitoring the conditions and standards of the building and engineering services including all aspects of the grounds, reporting back to the Workshop Supervisor.
  • To advise and raise orders for the material requirements for the daytoday maintenance needs of the Works Department.
  • To ensure all aspects of Health & Safety are considered and implemented.
  • To assist the Estates & Facilities staff with information and help on worksrelated matters when required.
  • To always ensure that a high standard of work is maintained, and that due consideration is given to customer care.
  • Maintain sufficient staffing levels and work to the financial resources available
  • Directly supervise all crafts persons, maintenance assistants and buildingcrafts operatives, ensuring that safe working methods are always adopted.
  • Maintain records required for costing and monitoring purposes.
  • Liaise with contractors concerning breakdowns of plant and equipmentand for the issue of keys and swipe cards.
  • Undertake any other duties as appropriate to the banding.
