About the role

The Culture and Creative Economy Coordinator is a new and important role in a team that is known for its hardworking, proactive and innovative nature.

The role involves administrative support, event production and project management on programmes led by the Business, Culture and Investment (BCI) team.

Guided by Lambeth's Creative Ways to Grow Strategy, these programmes such as ELEVATE, Future Connected and the Town Hall Art Programme are ambitious and wide reaching.

This role would be great for someone with an interest in the creative sector and some experience in production, coordinating events and/or office administration.

In this role there is the opportunity to get to know and influence Lambeth's creative providers, educators and others supporting cultural inclusion.

The role also supports the team to build relationships across the sector, fundraise, and contribute to the design, development, and delivery of cultural and creative programmes.

About the team

It is an exciting time to join the BCI team and be part of the evolution in our scope, ambition, and ability to support inclusive growth in our creative economy.

At a time when we are reviewing and refreshing our CDI strategy, there is an opportunity to have real influence and input in the direction of our work.

Here in Lambeth, we work with some of the UK's leading cultural institutions, universities, are home to a vibrant voluntary and community sector, and have a thriving start-up economy.

The potential for innovative partnerships and collaboration to support and empower local people is huge.

The team's work programme now encompasses:

  • Arts and culture
  • encompassing cultural infrastructure; ELEVATE; public art and events
  • Inward investment promotion and support
  • Priority growth sector strategies and work programmes
  • Creative and Digital; Health and Life Science; Low Carbon
  • Business and economic focussed partnerships including BIDs, STRIDE, and the recently established SC1 partnership
  • Strategic input into the council's Local Plan and PPA+ mechanism on major development schemes
  • Pandemic recovery projects

Lambeth's Culture and Creative Economy
We want Lambeth to be at the cutting edge of London's creative and digital economy.

And we want to see the sector grow inclusively - tackling inequality and providing opportunities for people of all backgrounds.

Creativity is an essential part of Lambeth's spirit. Lambeth's creative life is the work of local people, arts organisations and creative businesses across the Borough.

The Business, Culture, Investment team are at the heart of the Council's work to bolster the borough's cultural ecology and creative economy.

Creative Ways to Grow - the Council's Creative and Digital Industries Growth Strategy has already made progress in bringing people together, building understanding, and contributing to sustainable growth.

The scope of the team's cultural programme is diverse and dynamic, with three themes that weave through our work:

Creative Places

Maintaining and strengthening the resilience of Lambeth's cultural infrastructure by protecting and growing workspace, capacity building, enabling art in the public realm, and supporting cultural programming across the borough.

E.g.

A Creative Enterprise Zone, funded by the Mayor of London, has recently been established in Brixton, designed to attract and support creative businesses and develop employment opportunities for local people.

Creative Talent

Underpinned by an inclusive approach, we collaborate with organisations across the borough to tackle inequality in the creative industries, providing cultural learning, work experience and jobs to residents.

E.g., ELEVATE, our flagship initiative to open up the creative and cultural sector for all young people in the borough.

We want every young person under the age of 30 to shape culture - music, fashion, theatre, art, design, digital and more.

ELEVATE unlocks talent and potential and gives young people from all backgrounds the chance to build skills and access training and employment in the cultural and creative industries.

Creative Networks
We convene networks and nurture cross sector partnerships.

Engaging business, education and creative professionals, and cultural institutions across the borough (and beyond) enables us to share good practice, learn.

Facilitating a more joined up approach enables us to advocate for change, influencing strategy and policy more effectively.

E.g., Our cultural education partnership now connects over 75% of schools in the Borough to the sector.

Join us and support Lambeth's creative economy thrive and grow in inclusive ways that provide opportunities for all.
