Askham Bryan College is a specialist land-based college based across the North of England with centres in York, Middlesbrough, Saltaire, Wakefield and Newcastle.


We offer a wide-ranging curriculum to our Further Education students, including Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Management, Countryside and the Environment, Engineering, Equine, Floristry, Motorsport, Outdoor Adventure Sport, Sports Development, Coaching and Fitness, Uniformed Public Services and Veterinary Nursing.


Due to an increase in EHCP and High needs learners enrolling on study programmes here at the York campus, We have an exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, learner focused and inspirational EHCP and High needs coordinator to become a key member of the Inclusive Learning Team.


In this key role you'll assist in providing comprehensive and professional delivery of the Local Authority's statutory duty to review Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.


The role will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining close links with curriculum areas to support and review students' progress on an ongoing basis
  • Undertaking students' annual reviews in line with statutory duties for an identified caseload to support students and families
  • Undertaking training across curriculum areas to support the needs of students with EHCP and HNF
  • Supporting students' transition into college and to support progression opportunities in line with student aspirations


You will hold excellent communication skill to work with external agencies and across the organisation inclusive of curriculum teams and support services, ensuring identified EHCP support needs, provision and outcomes are met.

You will have sound knowledge of learning difficulties and disabilities and experience of working with special educational needs. You should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and experience of chairing meetings and organising a busy work schedule. Effective professional relationships with colleagues, learners and the wider community are essential. Excellent organisational and administrative skills are required and flexibility.

Main Purpose of the role
To act as main contact point and support for students with EHCPs and High Needs.


This role will be responsible for organising and coordinating of High-Level SEN support processes by using a graduated approach for students that require a higher level of targeted support and / or undergoing the assessment process for an EHCP.


The role will be also responsible for planning, leading and the delivery of the annual reviews process, and managing the administration of EHCPs and reviews to ensure that statutory time frames and duties are met by the College.


To work with external support agencies and across the organisation, including curriculum teams and support services, to ensure that the identified EHCP support needs, provision and outcomes are met.


Key Tasks / responsibilities:

All tasks to be carried out in a consistent manner with the corporation's culture.

  • To be a key contact for external agencies, especially the Local Authorities wishing to place a student with an EHCP at Askham Bryan College during consultation process.
  • To liaise with the Curriculum Team Leader (SEND) if the consult is complex and to respond within the fifteenday consultation period to meet legal time frames from Local Authorities.
  • To provide guidance and training to curriculum and support services on support strategies for students with SEN or a disability.
  • To be aware of the provision in the Local Offer and refer students with SEND to appropriate support services when required.
  • To work with other educational providers, educational psychologists, health and social care professionals, and other external agencies as part of the graduated approach to support.
  • To liaise and advise curriculum on students in their curriculum area with EHCPs and / or students with High Needs and SEND support needs, outcomes and provision required to ensure need is met.
  • To act in an advisory capacity to staff with regard to students with Education Health and Care Plans.
  • To identify students that are High Needs and complete necessary High Needs Local Authority funding forms.
  • To coordinate the preparation and completion of the EHCP annual review process and paperwork to ensure statutory timescales are met.
  • To act as chair for EHCP Annual Review meetings and multiagency meetings relating to students SEND support
