Avencia Consulting are working with a leading specialty Insurer in the City, who are looking to hire a Technical Reporting Manager to join.


The Company currently writes lines of business including; specialty insurance: aviation & aerospace, energy, marine, property, terror & political violence, contingency and other specialty lines; reinsurance: property reinsurance, property retrocession, specialtyreinsurance, whole account/multi-class and bespoke.


The role
Working within the Technical Reporting function and wider finance.


Key accountabilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the monthly and quarterly close process for all technical accounting processes
  • Ensures that month and quarterend books are closed in accordance with the relevant procedures and that reports reflect accurate and complete records of the performance of the business, across the Technical P&L and balance sheet
  • Oversee and review the preparation of monthly and quarterly management accounts, lead schedules and technical reporting pack for the Group of Companies and MGA.
  • Ensure appropriate financial controls are implemented and monitored within the business, including adherence with the firm's relevant accounting policies and procedures.
  • Drive simplicity and efficiency in reporting and processes; seeking out opportunities to utilise technology and MI to improve operational efficiency.
  • Assist with the analysis of the monthly underwriting results in accordance with the month end analysis checklist.
  • Liaise with business functions to ensure all findings from the monthly review are appropriately actioned in a timely manner
  • Perform the first review of tasks assigned to the technical team members during the month and quarter end close process
  • Liaise with underwriters and other stakeholders to provide first draft of analysis and commentary on the technical results.
  • Liaise with internal and external audit ensuring the timely completion of reviews and compliance with applicable accounting standards
  • Liaise with the Company's internal and external auditors on specific reviews, as necessary.
  • Responsible for coaching and developing junior accountants and reviewing work performed during the month and quarter end close process
  • Keep senior management fully informed of the status of ongoing projects assigned, as well as relevant accountingrelated issues that may arise from such projects

Skills & experience

  • A professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 35 years' post qualification experience gained in an insurance/reinsurance environment
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of US GAAP for insurance accounting
  • Knowledge of relevant accounting software (previous experience with Oracle and SAP Concur preferred but not required)
  • Advanced and proven financial, analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of the finance team and other key stakeholders across different functions within the organization
