Nottinghamshire Healthcare are excited to offer an opportunity for an Advanced Clinical Practitioner to join our Specialist Palliative Care services within Bassetlaw Hospice in Retford.


Bassetlaw Hospice has two ACP roles, this being one of them, working under the direct supervision of Consultants in Palliative Medicine.


The successful applicant will take day to day clinical leadership of our inpatient services across a seven day week, as well as the opportunity to develop and be involved with outpatient clinics, home visiting, research and education.


The successful applicant will have a wide breadth of clinical expertise and able to work autonomously and independently, practicing at the very highest level.

A wide breadth of experience is essential with a strong clinical knowledge of managing patients approaching the end of their lives.


As an advanced specialist you will manage the day to day clinical demands of complex patients as they approach the end of lives.

You will have a high level of clinical expertise enabling you to assess, diagnose and plan for individual care needs to ensure the best outcomes.


You will demonstrate strong clinical leadership taking decision for the admission and discharge of patients on a daily basis, as well as evaluating patient progress and reviewing this with Consultants as required.

You will take lead of ward rounds and MDT and provide clinical handover at weekends to out of hours and on call colleagues.


As an expert in your field you will use contemporary research and understanding to deliver the best evidence based care and make improvements where needed.


You will teach and provide supervision to the wider clinical team including Clinical Nurse Specialists, registered and unregistered nurses and therapists.


You will demonstrate excellent communication skills allowing you to provide empathic and outcome focused care to patients and those important to them.

You will contribute strategically to the development of the specialist palliative care services through your knowledge and experience.

We are looking for a dynamic, qualified Advanced Clinical Practitioner either from a Nursing or Allied Health Professional background with a wide breadth of recent experience including primary and secondary care and with a sound knowledge of palliative care.


The post holder will need to have excellent organisational skills, be a good communicator, work well within a team, demonstrate a caring, compassionate, and professional approach to patients and colleagues.

Experience in supporting other staff members and team leadership is paramount.
- extensive experience of working at Band 7 or above in a clinical role

  • Non medical prescribing qualification
  • Extensive knowledge of palliative and end of life care
  • Commitment to undertake and complete the MSc in Advanced Practice and associated Study Portfolio within an agreed time frame
