    Job description:

The Governance Team is a small, friendly team of Senior Advisers, Lead Advisers and Personal Assistants who support each other in ensuring that Natural England's Chief officers / Directors have everything needed to be able to carry out their duties.

The team work to support Natural England Senior Leadership and act as a key bridge between the Governance Team and the rest of the organisation


You will work directly with each Director in a high-profile area and work closely with other Personal Assistants and Team Leaders within the Governance team.

You will also build strong networks with other Area and National teams.


The Team also provide support to the Chief Executive, Chair of Natural England, Board Members, and the Executive Committee and operates to build alternative flexibility and resilience - therefore team members are expected to work across the team as necessary.

You will help provide cover for other Personal Assistants annual leave within Governance Team.


We are looking for a confident and efficient Personal Assistant to provide a first-class service to two Directors helping them to operate effectively to deliver organisational objectives and targets that contribute to Natural England's vision, mission, and goals.

Overall, your primary purpose is to ensure that each working day for the Directors runs smoothly and seamlessly. This may require you making decisions and being proactive in relation to meetings etc.

You will provide an administrative and secretarial service, including diary and action management, organising key meetings, arranging, and booking travel and hotel accommodation, booking meeting rooms and conference facilities, i expense preparation, raising purchase orders, records management/electronic filing and collation and despatch of weekly packs.


The Personal Assistant will need to build and sustain effective relationships with a range of internal and external customers and act as the main contact support for those customers when the Directors are out of the office.

You will be key in helping to manage Natural England's reputation and ensure efficient delivery for key customers.


You need to be a good team player with the ability to develop good rapport to enhance cohesive relationships with other Personal Assistants to the Chief Executive, Chair of Natural England, Executive Committee, and other Personal Assistants who support senior staff and people across the business.


You will need to make a positive impact and be highly recognised for your leadership, skills, knowledge, and expertise in this role.

This role is incredibly varied, challenging, and exciting offering a fascinating insight into this area of the organisation and there is plenty of opportunity for development.


There would be an expectation for some level of national travel e.g., to attend meetings and team meetings with some overnight stays.


Key duties/principal accountabilities

  • Diary management organising internal and external meetings, 121's and teleconferences.
  • Arranging and booking trains and hotel accommodation within NE Travel Policy limits.
  • Booking meeting rooms and conference facilities.
  • Raising IT equipment orders.
  • I expense preparation.
  • Ad hoc tasks
  • Provide cover for other Personal Assistants annual leave within the governance team.
  • Contribute to team teleconferences and meetings, bringing ideas and suggestions and exploring opportunities for improvements and greater efficiency
  • Maintain links with other Personal Assistants, both internal and external, ensuring good rapport and understanding, intelligence sharing and enabling skills development.
  • Occasional travel to team meetings with some overnight stays.
