The Mental Health Recovery Pathway (MHRP)

Overview:
The Mental Health Recovery Pathway
(MHRP) is a mental health provision based across three sites in Islington responding to the mental health needs of Islington residents; it offers two pathways -
The Integrated Community Support (ICS), providing day service opportunities for people with Low and Medium

Preventative Care Needs and
The Structured Integrated Support (SIS) for people with Higher and more complex needs.


Reporting to:
Crisis Café / out of hours service Team Leader


Job purpose:

To develop, organise, facilitate and oversee the Islington Mind's Crisis Café / Out of Hours Services
during the weekends - Saturdays and Sundays and one weekday evening.


This includes offering tailored emotional support to Islington residents in mental health crisis, and facilitating a therapeutic out of hours space with activities and managing risk and safeguarding issues


Hours of work: 12 hours per week

14:00 - 18:00pm on Saturdays and on Sundays. Plus one shift on a weekday between the hours of 6pm-10pm.


Annual Leave: 26 working days per year (pro rata)


Salary:
£27,993 - £30,063
pro rata (Scale 5/14 to 6/18 of the National Local Government payscales)


£9,597 - £10,307 for 12 hours per week.

Pension:
Islington Mind operates the auto-enrolment pension scheme and currently employer contribution is 3% and employees contribution is 5%


Location:
The post holder will provide a service from one of Islington Mind sites in the borough


Duties And Responsibilities

Service Delivery
To develop, organise, facilitate and oversee the Mental Health Recovery Pathway ICS Out of Hours Crisis café during the weekends: 2:00 - 18:00 pm on Saturdays and on Sundays, including:

  • Processing new referrals to the Crisis Café from agencies and organisations such as Crisis Single Point of Access (CSPA) which includes the Crisis Resolution Team, the Crisis Team, Crisis Services and GP clinics, providing tailored motional containment and support and signposting to relevant local service providers
- developing and overseeing the Crisis cafe / Out of Hours therapeutic safe space, offering opportunities to socialise and tackle isolation
- overseeing and managing risk and safeguarding procedures, utilising dynamic risk assessment approach
- developing and supervising a programme of user lead activities and peer lead discussion groups (e.g. art, music, creative writing, sewing, drama, music, CV writing, and various Expert by Experience groups etc.)
- supporting people in mental health crisis and referring to appropriate support agencies (e.g. crisis teams, crisis houses A&E etc.)


  • To work in partnerships with local statutory and voluntary sector organisation and specifically with crisis provisions in the borough of Islington and across the NCL, including crisis teams, the Crisis resolution, crisis houses, inpatient wards etc.
  • To work in partnership with other crisis cafes, specifically in the NCL ICS.

Service User Involvement and Support

  • To ensure service users views are key drivers, that services are fully accessible to all and that all users are aware of the Mental Health Recovery Pathway Service User Zone, including volunteering programmes, complaint, complements and feedback procedures and how to become members of the MHRP's Service-User Advisory / Reference Group, encouraging service users to take part in decision making processes and in all aspects of service delivery and development
To establish a supportive and respectful relationships with service users; to work in a way that acknowledges the personal, social, cultural and spiritual strengths and needs of the individual

To support and encourage individual service users to develop and use self-advocacy skills, develop self-management strategies, progress to and/or maintain independence

To carry out strength-based assessments and action plans to all new service users, promoting empowerment, choice and control and helping individuals identify their own achievable and realistic goals, to support individuals to, and agree on objectives and action plans to aid recovery, including a crisis plan where appropriate


Volunteer Management
To facilitate regular support and supervision to a team of volunteers and mentors who are involved in the delivery of the Out of Hours Crisis café activities

To maintain monitoring and management systems of volunteers' attendance and performance, utilising our volunteer software ensuring an up to date report of volunteers details and performance can
