Description

As a Safeguard Advisor you will support the Head of Safeguarding to deliver and monitor a Safeguarding Service in line with the Trust's statutory roles and responsibilities to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and adults and their families, who access Trust's services.


The postholder will act as a focus of expertise to support managers and staff to deliver high quality safeguarding practice throughout the service users care journey, including the recognition and management of abuse through appropriate referral to statutory and non-statutory agencies.


They will support the development and implementation of Safeguarding policies and procedures as delegated by the Head of Safeguarding or Operational Lead, working together with key safeguarding professionals to improve outcomes for vulnerable service users.


You will contribute to data collection and analysis to support audit activity and quality assurance processes in relation to the Trust, CCG, CQC and Sheffield Adult Safeguarding Partnership performance frameworks, ensuring the Trust meets the requirements according to the CQC Key Lines of Enquiry.

The Postholder will support the successful implementation of Safeguarding training and Safeguarding practice.

Although advertised as full-time, part-time hours would be considered.

Provide safeguarding advice and guidance, identifying emerging themes to inform future training.

Contribute to individual case discussions and escalate safeguarding concerns in accordance with local and national protocols and procedures.


Contribute to the investigation and reporting of safeguarding incidents, complaints or serious untoward incidents involving adults, children or young people at risk.


Support the Head of Safeguarding to interpret and implement National Policies and Guidelines, implement recommendations of Safeguarding Reviews and DHRs.


Work closely with the Named Professionals to monitor the organisation of care for adults and children at risk and Trust performance indicators and targets.


Support multi-professional teams to ensure a positive experience for patients attending STHFT, championing for their rights and dignity and challenging unacceptable practice.

Support staff and provide expert advice when attending multi agency safeguarding meetings.

Contribute to reports and briefing papers for appropriate committees, and to the Safeguarding Annual Report.

Identify the needs of staff including and facilitate learning for these staff groups.

Actively seek the views of adults at risk and their carers, being aware of Making Safeguarding Personal.

Participate in the Sheffield Multi-agency Training Pool for adult safeguarding.

Maintain high quality professional practice in line with Trust policy and procedure and professional background.

The post holder will be a key member of the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Safeguarding Assurance Committee.


Establish key working relationships across STHFT, allied health organisations, and with other agencies/services in primary and secondary care, the local authority, voluntary and independent sectors to work in partnership to ensure the safety of adults a risk of harm or abuse.

In conjunction with the Head of Safeguarding and Operational Lead.

contribute to effective partnership working with health and social care organisations to support patient-centred care across pathways including early supported discharge and intermediate care, and to enable alignment of the planning, commissioning and delivery of services for adults at risk.

To support the Trust's responsibilities in relation to the work of the Sheffield Adult Safeguarding Partnership.

Maintain valid registration with professional bodies e.g. the Nursing and Midwifery Council, HCPC and comply with professional guidelines.


To maintain expertise and skills by keeping up to date with safeguarding practice developments, professional, national and Trust developments and by accessing opportunities for own learning and mandatory training.

To participate in performance review with line manager working to achieve agreed objectives and personal development plan.

Receive supervision from the Operational Lead on a regular planned basis and in line with professional standards.


To draw on knowledge, research and development in the field of Safeguarding utilising both National and Local research findings to ensure the care, treatment and case management of vulnerable people is evidence based.

To work in collaboration with colleagues to promote and publicise best practice in safeguarding adults at risk.


To work with the Clinical Effectiveness Department to undertake regular audit of training provision and uptake, collecting, collating and analysing information to identify gaps and to evaluate effectiveness of training.

To act as a role model and lead by example to all members of the patient care teams.
